Knowing the back story can make a difference...
Perhaps, but in this case it was a totally random event given that I
was only there for the chatter and had no expectations for any music
that they were featuring. Thus the line itself is what caught my ear
as they had already stated the song was the theme for "The Sopranos"
and at that time there was no mention of the author or his slant on
the song. If anything I should have been prejudiced against it given
that I have such a low opinion of TV and anything it might have to
portray about New Jersey gangsters which I believe the show is about.
It was much, much later and on a different show - Same radio station
CBC Radio One - where I heard the interview and the real story behind "Woke Up This Morning".
wouldn't likely be running that sort of show
Offhand I cannot think of a TV show with a classical music theme.
Many movies but no TV shows. What comes to mind were all the Disney animations done to symphonic compositions.
If I have the opportunity present
Understood. In my case it was totally random which is perhaps the
best way. Also having everything going against it and it still made an impression might also be required to add additional meaning to the impression.
the line is the sort that would catch your attention
After which you appreciated the song even more
but the other cartoon studios also used classical, often from
opera, musical selections

Yes it is. Good thing I was half paying attention.
As we speak I happening to have it on and there is a commedian doing a really unrelatable commedy routine that I could easily have missed.
After which you appreciated the song even more
Not really but it did help explain why it never matched the premise of
the TV show ... except maybe the "got youself a gun" line which is something that gangsters feel is a required tool of their trade ... or
so I am led to believe.

I recall "Bugs Bunny" doing an opera(s) way back when. I seem to
recall it being small clips from different operas designed to more or
less match the action. Elmer Fudd was hunting wabbits if I am not mistaken. There was one scene with the "Barber of Seville" which is
the only thing that comes to mind at the moment.
Looking down at the bottom of this reply I see that we're getting very close.

Where Bugs is dressed like a barber, and sings a version of
Figaro's song... yes that was one cartoon episode...
Getting to be close enough to start making plans, perhaps

That sounds like the one that came to mind. I just did a search and
came up with this link;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_of_Seville and it notes that in
1994 it was rated #12 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time. It was released in 1950 according to the wikipedia page.
Getting to be close enough to start making plans, perhaps
Yes. I am assuming the usual 9PM Rochester time if for whatever
reason you don't get back to me before then with a revised time.
I still have to obtain my end of the toast and will probably do so next week barring any unforseen catastophe.
Speaking of which we're getting back to back storms all this week up
to and including Sunday. Lots of flooding so far but so far I've
managed to escape any damage. :::knock on wood:::
I think that will work out just fine... if not, I'll let you
know...
Let me know what you end up with...
Hopefully the storms have passed
Are the storms rain or snow... or both....?
so maybe we'll have a white Christmas....

I'll stop in Saturday and see what they have. I am sure if they - the usual Ladysmith store - doesn't have something I like then I will
probably find something suitable somewhere else. `Tis the season.
Hopefully the storms have passed
At least two more on their way with the one tomorrow carrying a severe wind warning along with the bucket of rain.
Are the storms rain or snow... or both....?
Buckets and buckets of rain. No mention of snow in the next two. The weather person on CBC Radio One is calling for a Green Christmas this
year which is normal for these parts. Last Friday we had two power outages due to trees being toppled over the power lines. However the
last storm generated a tornado just east of Seattle so we definetly
didn't get the worst of this series of storms. Mind you it isn't over
but if we escape damage tomorrow then we should be okay for the
immediate future. The long range forcast only calls for more (and
more) rain.
so maybe we'll have a white Christmas....
Is this a good thing? If so then I'll wish it for you.
Myself I am only looking to survive tomorrow's event.
And did you find something good at the usual Ladysmith store...?
just a dusting of snow last night....
Survival is a good thing.... ;)

Yes. 12 year old Glenlivet. :-)
just a dusting of snow last night....
Still no snow here and only a slight chance of snow for this weekend.
Survival is a good thing.... ;)
Yes it is and I made it through what the weather people are calling
the worst storm in 20 years. The power was out from Thursday morning until last night at 10:30 pm PST. The rest (telephone, cable, etc)
just came on a couple hours ago.
We got a little more this morning, after all the previous snow
was pretty much all gone
no time to do messages....

We're still green but there is a marginal threat of the white stuff
this week.

I have discovered that when it is time to do messages there is exactly enough time to do messages. Mind you I don't have that much else
going on at that time.
Looking at the clock on the wall I see there
is 23 hours left before we can officially put 2019-01-01 behind us. I
for one am looking forward to it.
