    Hallo mark!

    I noticed some of the colours were off in the previous ansification and I think
    this is an improvement albiet more bytes;

    I noticed some of the colours were off in the previous
    ansification and I think this is an improvement albiet more
    bytes;

    i could see them on my BBS but the rainbow wasn't in proper shape... the pot and clover leaf were fine... looks like things got shoved left but also some lines were wrapped/broken...

    i've not tried to save the ones on the point system and look at them, yet...

    Hey Alan!

    Some kind of wrapping issue in the top maybe, but the last 7
    lines turned out as you'd expect.

    Judging by your quote it looks like the top two lines are okay too but everything up to the last 7 lines looks borked. Here is the pure ascii before ansification just to see if the same shows up in it. According to all my linux
    terminals (3 of them) there are no wrapping issues even when viewing the packed
    msg from a raw pkt. Anyhow here is the ascii version;

    With or without ansi escape sequences they look the same to me as far as lining
    up.

    Ah, now I see it. I didn't recognize the rainbow at first. It looks like the above in BBBS also but when I try to quote it gets reformatted.

    Hey Alan!

    Ah, now I see it.

    Yeppers. Your quote is spot on as to what I see in both the ascii and ansi versions, albiet the ansi version is way prettier. I think I might know what the problem is and if I am on the right track then ansification of msg's isn't going to happen given the lack of standardization. This has about as much chance of success as getting rid of the 2 digit year idiocy in msg headers. ;-)

    If nothing else I now have closure on this issue. Thank you.

    that looks fine...

    With or without ansi escape sequences they look the same to me as far
    as lining up.

    the key may be what i mentioned before... i've not yet studied the ANSI codes in your original post... it does look like some wrapping has been done to the ANSI version... that can easily mess up ANSI screens... what i mentioned previously was the ANSI codes for saving the current cursor position and restoring it when the next line is processed... if word wrapping is being done,
    this should work around it unless the wrap comes before the cursor save command...

    maybe i'll see if i can screenshot all three? both of the ANSIs and the plain text one?

    Hallo mark!

    that looks fine...

    Yes it does. Imagine that ... an editor can actually display ascii text without screwing up lines. Anyhow your quote looks the same as I see it both in vim as well as 'cat'ting it to a linux terminal. However both the ansi and ascii versions both 'cat' the same to a linux terminal without the need for an editor getting in the way to fsck things up.

    All three look more or less what I see in vim. If that is your only method of displaying ansi msg's then all hope is lost for msg'ing ansi ... not that it really matters ... does it? If so then you'll have to reevaluate how you're going to handle it.

    i was mainly showing how they arrived here and are displayed in GoldED... you can see that the esc character has been replaced with '>' in the display but it
    is there in reality... the main thing being how the lines are laid out...

    i've still not tried saving them and then looking... ISTR doing it in the past but don't recall what i used to view them... it may have been cat but :shrug: if i were taking extra steps to get the messages another way, things could be different... i don't recall if GoldED has a way to save and display a file externally... TimED did but i'm not using it any more since i lost my OS/2 box and have moved to a full linux barn... no more OS/2 or winwhatever any more...

    anyway, i may still try the export and view that way but for now, i'm ok...

    going back through the echo via my console term connection and came across this old post... it looks great! the original one i posted with golded was really trashed badly... apparently it stuffed all the code into control lines which i was not able to tell before... anyway, this is a subliminal test, too...
