    Hallo Nancy!

And what are you quoting in the subject line this time...?

    "Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 3. The verse that comes from is;

Which is also the theme song from the TV show "The Sopranos."

    Mike

    Hey Mike!

Actually there are two different versions of the song, both by Alabama 3. I believe the one used as the theme song of the Sopranos uses "I" instead of "you". Both versions have nothing to do with mobsters btw.

The original - the "you" one - started out to be a tribute to Howlin' Wolf but was later changed to honour(?) a abused wife who murdered her husband ... or at
least that is what I heard the author claim in an interview. He was surprised
at the success of the Sopranos theme song given that it has nothing to do with
    gansters. Go figure eh?

    Life is good,

I'd guess it has a catchy tune, to go with the lyrics....? That's as
likely as anything to make it succeed as a TV theme song... and it not
having anything to do with gangsters might have fed into that, by
encouraging people to not think of the Sopranos as the bad guys so
    much....?

Yes. I think the kids these days call it industrial music or at least it is heavily influenced by that genre ... if indeed it is a real genre.

I've never seen the TV show but I am aware of it's existance. The little TV I watch is more news than entertainment. I am more of a radio person especially CBC Radio One which is more talk than music. That is where I heard the interview with the author of "Woke Up This Morning".

BTW despite the name Alabama 3, the band is British.

Not one I'm particularly up on.... nor, probably, very keen on...
although I'm willing to listen to a wide variety, as long as it's
    good.... ;)

Likewise. And I don't watch the TV any more, except by accident...

I'm definitely more of a radio person, also... but I prefer the music to
    the talk....

Doesn't surprise me. Bands/groups take all sorts of names.... ;)
