GoG.com, they sell Doom for $0.99 and I think, what the hell, at least now I have another license to legally run the DOOM .wads that are just so amazing.

Also heard rumors that Romero is writing new doom levels and they'll be available as an update to Doom 1, 2, and Ultimate.... So yeah.

Oh, I'm running gzdoom for that sweet mouse-look. Game is still so much fun.

My first experience with DOOM was running cooperative mode, IPX LAN
networking. We used the computers in our call center and placed a 6 person conference call with headsets while playing. Lots of fun - we'd play from
the close of business until the wee hours.

Played DOOM at Electronic Arts in the Call Center "Pit", using IPX pretty much took down the whole network while we were playing.

The only other game to encourage such passion that wasn't an iD Software game was....



TRIBES!


IMO, still the most underrated shooter of all times. I wish it was on GoG. I'd run a server and I guarantee most of my EA buddies who are still around would play. Was the first game we played after hours that often had matches of 32v32. Also got to play with American McGee and a bunch of other legendary EA peeps.

We even started challengeing other software studios like Activision and just owned. We were so good they solicited us for strategies.

Yeah, Tribes, amazing game.

You can still get Tribes from their website. The current owner of Tribes release all of the old ISO files for Tribes and Earthseige. I recently played through Tribes Vengeance (made by the folks who later would make Bioshock).
It is a fantastic game, and it has a pretty solid story line.
