That's unfortunate. It's been decades since this game was last able to be registered. There's nothing to be done about it at this point.
Do you enjoy playing The Pit 4.17 (yes, the one with the fancy graphics terminal) but get annoyed by a one specific shareware feature? Is your single biggest regret of the '90s (and we know about that mullet) not getting this game registered when you had a chance? Does your version of the game make you feel like you are in that Groundhog Day movie, constantly re-living the same day and starting over again once a certain point has been reached?
That's unfortunate. It's been decades since this game was last able to be registered. There's nothing to be done about it at this point.
In COMPLETELY UNRELATED news, a team of 5-6 software testers is being assembled to verify recent updates for an undisclosed software package. Ideal candidates for this group will have most or all of the following skills and attributes:
- Be fully capable of installing and running DOS door games on a BBS system (public or private) with little or no assistance
- Be able to accurately report problem details and follow instructions to resolve them
- Have working knowledge of DOS or a DOS emulator and be able to use simple DOS applications without help
- Actually be interested in helping to ensure the software is functioning properly
- Already be familiar with the various quirks and features of The Pit 4.17 or at least later versions of The Pit 4.xx
If you would be interested in this small project, please send a netmail to me at this node. Include a reliable Internet e-mail address, describe your system setup, and give a brief explanation of how you meet the requirements above. Preferably I would like to have all of the common door environments (Win32 NTVDM, NTVDMx64, DOSBox, DOSEMU, others?) represented. A DOS machine without a floating-point math coprocessor would be especially interesting.
Thanks for reading.
