A pale veil of dust blew across Libya in late March 2023. The Moderate
Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua
satellite acquired a true-color image of dust storm on March 29.
Sitting in Northern Africa, Libya is the fourth-largest country in
Africa and the 16th-largest country in the World. The country enjoys a
long coast along the Mediterranean Sea, where most of the population
resided. Inland is a dry, difficult landscape that alternates between
large sand seas and rocky outcroppings. Only about 1 percent of the
land is arable, and dust storms are one of the country’s leading
natural hazards.
