Yes. There are shared FD spool directories with binkd fileboxes.

Everything from BSO is moved to those fileboxes by Allfix.

HPT of course can put mail directly to the boxes. :)

I have been playing with D'Bridge a little. My Internet Rex has issues working in my windows 10 VM. Piss me off...

I'm trying to figure out what version of BinkD... there must be 7 or 8 different versions for windows alone... Pearl...

Anyway, would be nice if JoHo made some small changes to FD so that it would dove tail into Bink a little better. Kinda like what D'Bridge does... A 16bit Mailer that has code added into it. I know it might be more than that.... But it can't be that bad

I see there is a file in my ststems directory called filequeue.fd ... it's blank what goes in there. How does FD or FE or BinkD know where to send mail or files.

No idea. Maybe used by FD internally to store the queue stuff. (The file name is actually FILQUEUE.FD).

then I'm no further ahead talking with you about FD Static Queue system.

I know the mail tosser tosses mail to whatever places.... I understand this. I

can setup BinkD or InterNET Rex to have a File or Mail Box... I do this in those programs. I then get the mail tosser to either toss mail to those predefined directories... and then the mailer sends mail out. I define the directory in the mailer and then setup the tosser to match the directory.

An other example is D'bridge... I have played with this over the past few days... BUT... simpple enough there is a queue subdirectory where D'Bridge sends mail to and there is a directory for each of my downlinks in that queue directory.

That's it... I just don't understand this Static Queue business and when I look through the docs there isn't enough info to sink my teeth into.

Internet Rex had stopped working in my Windows 10 VMs. I have been playing around with OS/2 and I haven't worked out all the kinks. It did make me ask a few questions about FD and static queues.... I don't need to fully understand these to make things work with FD and OS/2.

I have network issues that I haven't been able to resolve with OS/2... I'm working on the mail process first... and when I have a moment I'll tackel the my networking issue.

that's easy enough... take the one with the highest version number and the additional listed features that you might need for your specific OS...

it is a lot more than that... for one thing, having the old build environment available and running on today's machines... that's a huge hurdle... using a different compiler isn't an easy task, either... especially when you have Pascal, C and ASM code to build and link and we've not even touched on being able to use any external or 3rd party libraries...

in short, it just won't happen without a new FrontDoor which will likely be 32bit or 64bit... in this day, i would expect 64bit before any other...

i never got as far as Tommi did and set up FD's fileboxes in the STQ... i used matts' tool to move the mail and files from the STQ to the individual fileboxes

i had set up in my binkd configuration... i left my Allfix and Fastecho configured as they were so as far as they were concerned, everything was done in FD's inbound and outbound directories and they had no clue that binkd was even on the system... handling FREQs was another matter, though... especially those that came in via binkd... it was a huge monstrous kludge and that's a word i don't use lightly...

it is a binary file... you don't put anything in it... your mail tosser and file processor will do that if they know how... otherwise, they'll use the old netmail attach format...

binkd uses the ?LO files... you'll find the details about them in the BinkleyTerm docs and related binkd documentation and FAQs...

FD reads the netmail MSG header or the entry in the STQ to know... FE knows where a message and/or PKT is headed because it reads their headers...

what are you missing?? the FDADMIN files has this as the definition of the STQ...

Static queue A single-file database containing entries that specify
files to send and fetch, as well as systems to call.
By using external software, such as conference mail
processors, that supports the static queue, the speed
of mail processing can be improved considerably.


a search for STQ in the docs should provide you most everything needed to know... there really is nothing special about it other than it being a binary database which is processed faster than reading and processing MSG files...

Yeah, IREX does not seem to like newer versions of Windows for some reason -- usually after a Windows update, which sounds like what may have happened in your case, but I may be just guessing there.
