Considering how anal the global media industry is about copyright, how come they do not respect the title of a movie or a TV series?

When you search for a specific name on e.g. IMDB you usually get dozens of hits if not more for the exact name.

Search for instance for 'Hamlet' (Exact Matches) on IMDB you get 120 hits!

Wouldn't it be better if there was only *one* movie or *one* TV series registered with the exact same name?

So it wouldn't be possible then to produce a movie about a very small village?

Would it be totally impossible to produce a movie about a very small village
with a *movie* name different from any previous one?

I want to like IMDB, I really do, but lately its just getting stupid with unavoidable advertising for stupid comic-book movies I do not care for.

Yes... I know theres an audience for them, but Hollywood is really grasping for anything to make a buck or two.

Not many good movies lately, with a few exceptions. Green Book was good.

    Hello Bj”rn,

Considering how anal the global media industry is about copyright, how
    come
they do not respect the title of a movie or a TV series?

There are many remakes of an original. And everybody wants the
real thing. So it is best not to differentiate. Remember, life
    imitates art.

When you search for a specific name on e.g. IMDB you usually get dozens of hits if not more for the exact name.

There is no such thing as originality. Especially with remakes.

Search for instance for 'Hamlet' (Exact Matches) on IMDB you get 120 hits!

    Hamlet was a popular guy!

Wouldn't it be better if there was only *one* movie or *one* TV series registered with the exact same name?

A psychologist once told me that studies have been shown you
never get tired of listening to the same song until you have heard
it 14 times in a row. That is why old folks like Mick Jagger and
the Rolling Stones keep singing the same songs to newer generations
of fans. Including oldsters such as themselves (most of whom have
    lost their hearing long ago).

For better or for worse, the superhero genre is where all the real money is these days. Avengers 4 will be Marvel/Disney's fourth billion-dollar
superhero movies this year, and it's only April.

    Hollywood is really
grasping for anything to make a buck or two.

    When has it not?

I use it entirely as an encyclopaedia.

Not many good movies lately, with a few exceptions.

I agree 100%. And looking at the top 100 list it seems like most people agree with us. Despite hired trolls that give lousy new movies a 10 out of 10.

    Green Book was good.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

There are many remakes of an original.

    Well, OK for remakes then.

But take for instance the TV series New Amsterdam. The 2008 version (a variation of Highlander) was one of my favourites. Unfortunately it was cut short after only eight episodes.

The 2018 version is yet another boring hospital series with all the usual love affairs between staff, gory surgery scenes and so on. Totally unrelated to
the 2008 series, they could have named their hospital to anything but New Amsterdam.
