Hello Everybody,
"How dare you!" ~Greta Thunberg, a Swedish 16-year-old girl,
scolding leaders of the world at UN Climate Change Summit.
"My message is that we'll be watching you."
"My message is that we'll be watching you."
She's a very inspiring young lady. I hope world leaders everywhere will
pay attention to what she is saying.

No, she is not
... she is scripted all the way ... reading from a paper ...
reading from a teleprompter.
There are "no" interviews with Greta Thunberg which are not scripted.
With very few exceptions most of what what we see and hear on the public stage is scripted and practiced.
I don't know Greta Thunberg or how she got to the stage. But I think she meant what she said and said it well.
She was obviously scared, but did quite well with a powerful and
important message.
beWith very few exceptions most of what what we see and hear on AI>thepublic stage is scripted and practiced.
But most of these people, when shoved a microphone under their nose, will
capable of coming-up with whole sentences and reply to questions, not just a few rehearsed one-liners.

She read from a paper what someone had written on that paper and rehearsed it with that person, her father, who is also trying to push a book about his daughter. Written by himself.
Being Swedish she will be the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
As we know, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is famous for other silly recipients, most recent Barack Obama for achieving nothing.
She was obviously scared, but did quite well with a powerful and
important message.
I'm not questioning the message.
In the past (like 20 years ago) I have worked for the UN on international meetings about the environment and I remember very well standing next to Severn Cullis-Suzuki. Don't know her? How come I am not surprized...
In 1992, aged 12, she attended Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and was allowed to present a naive statement which in the meantime is called "The Girl Who Silenced the World for 5 Minutes".
A strong statement, scripted, but she obviously knew what she was saying, not like Greta who has to memorize every statement before saying it. I know, she has Asperger's, but that is of no consequence.
Please look at this video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJJGuIZVfLM
In the run-up to the 2002 Conference on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg (for which the Secretary-General of the UN asked me to volunteer my services) I had the pleasure of sitting 3 days next to a now older Severn Cullis-Suzuki, about 20-21, who now had no scripted paper and was kind of helpless when being asked a question.
She became a TV-show host and an author ... then vanished from the stage.
Or look at the statement by Samantha Smith who wrote Yuri Andropov in 1982 then aged 10 ...aged
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TgCEvWa16Y
She wrote a book about her Russian experience and became a supporting actress in "Lime Street" with Robert Wagner. She died in a plane crash
15.
And now this Greta.
Is it a coincidence that we always are confronted with young girls? Are their statements so much more meaningful? Aren't there any boys saying anything meaningful? Or is this indeed "scripted by the media" ...creating
news.
Greta will get the Nobel Peace Prize and by the time she is 20 she will be forgotten because she is a one trick poney. Just like Severn Cullis-Suzuki ... Samantha Smith unfortunately did not live long enough ...

Her first North American interview seems pretty off-the-cuff and genuine. Look up Democracy Now, Sep 11.

So far I have not seen a true "question/answer" interview with her. A
conference where she reads a statement from a paper is somethingdifferent.
Although nothing wrong with the message, the manner in which it was delivered a few days ago was pure Hollywood drama and from the expression you could easily conclude "there is something badly connected in this girl's brain".
Remember, Americans who now revere her also elected Donald Trump ...
the networks can make or break someone ...
in the US, in Sweden, even in Finland.
The next day there's a big plane crash and "whoosh" she's off the wires.
On April 15th 1986 we planned with Greenpeace a whopping campaign against polution and industrial discharges. When we switched-on the radio that morning the US had bombed Tripoli overnight ...
no journalist showed up except maybe a guy from a student newsletter who hadn't listened to the radio yet.
The media can make you or break you ...

Thunberg, 16, denounced world leaders on Monday for failing to tackle climate change in a speech at the start of a climate summit at the
United Nations in New York.
She started solitary weekly protests outside Swedish parliament a year ago. Inspired by her, millions of young people poured onto streets
around the world last Friday to demand governments attending the summit take emergency action.
When they do things may change.... but I won't be holding my breath.
Money is more important than the ecology, or the people... or anything.
People go into a service station and buy a litre bottle of water and pay
$3 but complain when they have to pay $1.50 for a litre of petrol, especially when water out of a tap is free.
especially when water out of a tap is free.
Free?
Then how come I get a water-bill for tap-water ?

For the sake of the discussion, I think that we all can agree that
it's *basically* free.

It's not dear but it isn't free either.

Generally speaking nothing is free, I was mentioning how a lot of folks complain about the price of petrol but happily buy water at a gas station
double the price of the gasoline when they could use a refillablecontainer
and get it for free at the gas station when buying gasoline.
BTW, why would the Bundy council charge you, you mean it cost you that to drive there, wasn't the water actually free :)
when water out of a tap is free.
Hmm - Bundaberg Regional Council charged me A$1.90/kilolitre this
morning when I got some water from the town spigot.
I'm not sure where you're located (in Z3?) but in this area potable [..]
Oh? Do petrol stations in your area have taps available for that
purpose? I've not noticed any here. One should probably refill the
bottle from the tap at home (where one pays for one's water via the quarterly council taxes).
It most certainly wasn't free. I'm speaking of the bulk water outlet at the base of one of their water towers. We have to buy an electronic "token" from the council and keep it charged with credit to get water
out of the outlet (plugging it in turns on the valve in there
somewhere).
One has to provide one's own hose, 100mm fitting and at least a 1000
litre container.
I wasn't refilling a plastic bottle....
I'm not sure where you're located (in Z3?) but in this area potable
water is becoming a scarce and valuable resource. I've had no real rain
in nearly 18 months.
Cairns. Have you had plenty of rain over the water catchments in Cairns?
Then how come I get a water-bill for tap-water ?

No it is not. The water here is metered and the more I use, the more I pay.
Oh? Do petrol stations in your area have taps available for that
Yes, they have taps near the bowsers.

Do all of Bundy have to do this or just a few in some areas?

Are you connected to water supply?

It was never about you :)

Cairns,
with this heat all of Oz needs more rain.
Hmm - Bundaberg Regional Council charged me A$1.90/kilolitre this

The Fraser Coast Council charges $1.76/kL. I spent a total of $15.84
per the last billing period. (There's just little ol' me and my
feathered friends.)
You are welcome to fill any containers here if you care to visit.
Standard domestic hose only, unfortunately. OTOH it is conveniently situated close to the driveway, which is clear these days as I sold the 'white knuckle' Nissan. Free coffee!; bring doughnuts (plain preferred).
I'll try and find some plain doughnuts and come past :)

Any such taps here are labelled "non-potable".
Only those not connected to the town water supply I guess. Most on rain tank water pay a contractor to deliver a truckload. I looked into the - the contractor charges $200.00 to deliver water which costs $25.00 from the spigot.
No - I am out in a rural area. I rely on rain water tanks (and as they
are now empty I have to buy the water in town.
Not really that hot here - just no rain. :(

When the tanks were last full how many years did they last?

And this conversation illustrates that some boys are not wiser when they are
older men?
