• Insulting the Dead

    Hello Everybody,

    How ridiculous.

"Do not speak ill of the dead."

As if the dead have a right to be excused
of the wrongs they have committed.

Much better to speak truth of the dead.

"You should never say anything bad about the dead,
only good. Joan Crawford is dead. Good."
~Bette Davis on the death of Joan Crawford

See there? Bette Davis knew what she was talking about.
And was never a hypocrite, like most folks.

When I was in grade school, a nun who taught the class
liked to tell us, in Latin, "De mortuis nil nisi verum."

Of course, none of us had the faintest idea of what she
was talking about, since none of us spoke Latin, thinking
it must have been either a curse or a prayer.

Anyway, you can't really insult someone that's dead.

So what's the big deal? Instulting or criticizing a dead
person doesn't make you a bad person. Even if somebody else
    says it does.

Bad manners, perhaps. But certainly nothing more than that.

I mean, if you can insult someone in life you should be able
to insult them in death. Regardless of whether they are dead.
Think about it. It would only be wrong if you insult the
grieving family. And even that is only a maybe, and not a
    given.

Nobody thought about the grieving family of Adolf Hitler.
Nobody thought about the grieving family of Benito Mussolini.
Nobody thought about the grieving family of Saddam Hussein.
I can go on and on about all the grieving families that
nobody cared about when they insulted those who died.

We are all hypocrites, thinking we should always play nice
    whenever somebody dies.

If you are an SOB when you are alive, then you are an SOB when
you are dead. It really is that simple. So why not just say it
out loud when that person is dead?

After the funeral, fair game. Right? Not a chance. Some folks
never bother having a funeral. Or even have a notice about their
death (obituary) published, either in print or online.

I will say it one more time -

If they fucking deserve it when they are alive, then they don't
    get immunity from dying.

We have a right to criticize/insult everyone - both the living
and the dead. Nobody gets a free pass. And I mean nobody.

If you feel I am an asshole, please do feel free to criticize
and/or insult me all you want when I am dead. I promise not to
bite. If you would prefer to give me a preview while I am still
alive and kicking, so much the better. I will try my best not
    to die laughing.

If someone did awful things or was just an all around shitty
person calling them out on it should not be a bad thing. That
is what Donald Trump does. And he does it to both the living
and the dead. So why not the rest of us?

Dead people always seem to be so good for a reason.
