Not really. In late '94 David's favourite NC at the time insisted that
I had to formulate a 'direct' netmail application for nodelisting, using
    a ~/999 address.

When I sometimes see some boring news clips about what goes on with the most

    Hello Björn,

Unfortunately, The Orange One decided to build a wall and we have
    been unable to return ...

When I sometimes see some boring news clips about what goes on with the
    most
stupid POTUS the US citizens have ever elected (sorry GWB, not a chance on that title now), I cannot help but wondering where all the Trump huggers
    in
    Fidonet went.

You really have to get out more. Trumpers are everywhere.
Of course, you may not recognize any of them until you attend
one of those rallies. Everybody wearing MAGA hats, the entire
crowd being a sea of red ...

Is that Donald guy really true? I've seen nothing but incredible stupidity from him. Whenever he speaks he's making an even bigger fool of himself than anyone thought possible.

You have to be there to truly understand. The man speaks like
a third grader. And the crowd loves it, believing every word he
    says.

In the early days of our history, US presidents had a 20 year
education. Really bright guys, some of them having an IQ of over
150 (John Quincy Adams is thought to have had an IQ of 158). In
today's world, most Americans are lucky to have had 10 years of
education, and can barely read and write.

That is why most people in America revere Donald Trump as the
smartest man alive. This is what snopes.com had to say -

Trump IQ test results discovered in former NYMA employee’s closet.

    The result: 73

The results of an IQ test that President Donald Trump allegedly took
during his first year at New York Military Academy have been discovered
in a file box in a closet in Brooklyn. According to the test results,
    Trump’s IQ is 73.

The document, currently in the process of being authenticated, was
discovered Thursday by William Askew, Jr. as he was cleaning out his
    late father’s apartment.

“Dad was the school counselor at NYMA from 1955 to 1985. He didn’t administer these tests, but he was in charge of collecting them and
sending them to the grading office,” said Askew.

Askew produced additional documents and photographs that confirm his
father was indeed employed as school counselor at NYMA at the same time
Trump attended the military prep school.

“I don’t think this should be news to anybody,” said Askew. “The guy’s
    clearly a total moron.”

USA definitely is a very interesting society. Scary strange, but
    interesting
    watching from a distance.

Which would you rather have as the leader of your country -
a stupid person, or a crazy person? For most folks, it is a
    very easy choice.

You also pretended that you were a contributor to his baby, the D'Bridge software, which he vehemently denies. It's a polite way of him of saying that you were lying.

Not lying? Show us the code that you contributed. Strike-1.

You also pretended that you co-wrote parts of the ERRFLAGS-software in use here
and at other locations. So I asked Johnny Bergdahl about it and this is verbatim what he writes: "Felten was the NC of 2:203 (and still is as far as I know). He never helped me with a single line of code while I was managing it." The original statement is in the Fidonet-group on Facebook. Strike-2.

You also facilitate the access to Fidonet of the biggest troll there is. PTL for inventing the 'Next' key.

And I also hope you realize that the only reason why you still are in Fidonet is because I have been holding my hand above your head.

How am I doing so for on the 'freedom of speech' scale?

    The result: 73

I'm an agnostic, I have absolut no beef with the Muslims, so why would I "waste" my freedom of speech on an insult that isn't even in par with my own personal opinion? Just to try how far my Freedom of Speech goes?

Sure... its the only reason you are around anymore. To see how far your free speech can go as thats your amusement... you have a lot in common with Janis who you claim to despise over the years yet you could never stop discussing.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away; I read all of the "Europe
sucks" crap coming from this zone and really tried to understand things
from another point of view, so we began conversing. I dismissed your anti-USA ranting as just retaliation against Ross Cassell and especially Roy Witt.

In the fall of 2005 when I took over the D'Bridge code, you offered and shared some of your knowledge, which was appreciated but never went anywhere into my final code as I decided to take things in a different direction. I wrote all of the Internet code myself from scratch. You did not contribute to that despite your boasting to Ward. Show me the Internet code you wrote. You can't.

As time went on, I began to see more unrealistic/unfair anti-USA ranting
from you even as the zone-wars died and no more gaslighting from Janis, Bob Seaborn, Ross, etc... but most importantly the departure of Roy Witt.

I travelled to the 'states a few times, made friends, had a blast... but return to catch up on Fidonews banter and here we are with "Orange Man Bad".

Its as if your fellow USA Sysops are somehow single-handedly responsible for electing President Trump and must suffer your nonstop whining and crying.
The anti-USA crap from you just became a very irritating, uneducated, misinformed tired comedy sketch from you just like your sketchy troll friend tried to show off his encyclopedic knowledge of P4 when I was elected ZC1.

As time went on even further, a close Sysop friend of mine who was a true gentlemen passed on; and you did absolutely nothing to curtail the disrespect from the troll. That is when I really began to dislike you personally.

As we catch up to the present; you only exist to point out "Queens English", the tired crap about Trump, or pumping up your trolling friend for amusement.

*THAT* is how you use your free speech. How you've ALWAYS used your speech.

    Donald Trump needs an enemy.

Barack Obama has the most followed Twitter account in the world.

    an
insult that isn't even in par with my own personal opinion? Just to try
    how

What did the victims of 9/11 do to deserve what they got from
terrorists? I am sure some of them were agnostic, others deeply
religious. In a city with a population as diverse as NYC, it is
certain that some of the victims were Muslim. And that is not
counting those who died at the Pentagon in Washington DC, or those
    who perished on the airplanes.

The USA has a problem with terrorism. Mass shootings have become
a common occurrence, especially at schools and shopping centers.
But also at places of worship (churches, synagogues, mosques).
Nobody wants to admit it, but this is domestic terrorism. No wall
will ever stop or prevent this kind of terrorism from happening.

Jeeezzz, man. I really feel sorry for all the people that still don't understand the concept of Freedom of Speech...

Unlimited freedom of speech is the only free freedom of speech

In the fall of 2005 when I took over the D'Bridge code, you offered and shared
some of your knowledge, which was appreciated but never went anywhere
    into my
final code as I decided to take things in a different direction.

Maybe you could have told me that? After all, this is one of many mail you sent to me prior to that decision of yours:

    (From - Thu Nov 24 04:01:58 2005)

    Hi,

Got it OK (good old BinkP...). And of course I understand that I'm not
supposed to give anything away to anyone, unless you give me the permission to do so. I just hope you will not claim exclusive copyright for 70 years after you're dead (I probably die before you anyway -- I'm 57 and I get the feeling you're somewhat younger than me)? :)

    LOL I'm exactly 30 years younger. :-)

Yeah, it sure is a mess. It seems that, in the end, the original author
resorted to cut&paste programming, judging from the massive amount of redundant
code (probably the main reason for our memory problem at the moment).

Yes, and I had a hell of a time even trying to design something so simple as an
extra menu for users to configure their BinkP settings; the "dynamic window" code in the configuration menus (where you can type in multiple-lines of text) is VERY picky. If you can understand how it works; I'm sure you'll agree its very unstable.

I'll try to clean it up as much as possible, and also remove all the
quirks and extras added in the old TP5.5 days, no longer needed with BP7, since
it has most of those functions already built into the run time library.

Much appreciated. What kind of wine do you want me to ship you for christmas? :-)

If I understand you correctly, I can also remove all the registration
related stuff (that amounts to a lot of waste of computer resources)?

I was actually going to do that myself but if that will make it easier for you to migrate to BP7, sure.

DBINIT and EDINIT (IIRC) make extensive checking of the license keyfile, actually most of the code that has that CRC table in the beginning declarations
is pretty much for the anti-piracy features of D'Bridge.

I just remembered that the DB.EXE TSR that gets built by MDB.BAT also checks for a Fossil TSR to be loaded; if not, it calls X00.EXE to load one, before any
of the mailer code gets ran. You'll also find extensive assembly stuff, mainly CRC checking, in all of the Zmodem related code; although upon inspection it should not be necessary to change it - its not making use of heap code or pointers or anything to my knowledge. Its the swap-to-DOS stuff elsewhere in the code that will keep your hands full I'm sure. :-P

There was actually several sections of code I removed that checked the license "kee" file quite frequently, and two systems could not connect if they shared the same serial number. If they did, both systems would crash quite horribly...
on purpose. I think this program was the first to use an activation system like
XP did. Pretty clever anti-piracy stuff for 1987. :-)

If you don't hear from me in a week or so, you know the reason why --
I'm into deep sh*t, up to my neck, trying to get out. :)

Oh it took me a few weeks to even figure out where to begin, once the original author sent me the source code. He dumped everything into a ZIP file and basically said "good luck". I must warn you about the TurboPower routines - The
ISAM stuff is used extensively for the nodelist compiler, queue system and costbase - Changing any of that stuff causes "interesting" side effects. :-P

Oh, I have no intention of breaking my 25 year long record of never
having failed a software mission, so I'll eventually have this thing working, even if it's the last thing I do. :)

I totally agree as its my mission as well to have a functioning integrated BinkP system in place and maybe some other "goodies" if it can be done. I've been using this mailer for over 12 years and 12 years of using the same product
kinda grows on you after awhile. I even got my girlfriend Laura involved; she handles the "tech support" side of things, personally answering all emails and questions asked by newcomers to DB. We're actually getting quite the little following going on now.

But during my more than 30 years in Fidonet, I've donated hundreds of code snippets to the public domain. A dozen or so made it to the SWAG archive (http://eljaco.se/SWAG/). I've also helped several FTN developers slipstreaming
    their code when asked to.

Most of them didn't even thank me for my effort. Some did, but I didn't care. The experience I've accumulated during all this time, I would just hate to see that turned into dust once I leave, so I've tried the best I can to share it with the next generation.

That is stating a simple fact.

You know pretty well that at the time of the Fidoneews-putsch you were at the core of the controverse ... the goal of the putchists was to have you removed ... from the nodelist, from Fidonews, from anything in this network. That did not happen because I dug-in my heels.

Let me further explain that I have received more than one request over the years to dump you. The fact it didn't happen is a clear message.

Let me further explain that I have received more than one request over BF>WD> the years to dump you. The fact it didn't happen is a clear message.

Indeed it is. The fact that you even consider such a "request" as
opposed to a properly formatted Policy Complaint, sends a chilling
message about how the Fidonet powers handle situations on a whim.

Do not try to immitate Roy Witt, he was the master of turning an argument around. You obviously were not the best pupil while he was lecturing.

So, to repeat the question as opposed to your silly attempt at an accusation ... how many people have I ever thrown out of the nodelist during that stretch of 25 years? I know the exact number, and so do you, which is the reason why you're not answering...

10.2 Timing of Zone Mail Hour

Zone Mail Hour is observed each day, including weekends and holidays. The time is based upon Universal Coordinated Time (UTC), also known as Greenwich Mean time (GMT). In areas which observe Daylight Savings Time during part of the year, the local time of zone mail hour will change because FidoNet does not observe Daylight Savings Time. The exact timing of Zone Mail Hour is set for each zone by the Zone Coordinator.

In FidoNet Zone 1, Zone Mail Hour is observed from 0900 to 1000 UTC. In each of the time zones, this is:

Eastern Standard Time 4 AM to 5 AM
Central Standard Time 3 AM to 4 AM
Mountain Standard Time 2 AM to 3 AM
Pacific Standard Time 1 AM to 2 AM
Hawaii Standard Time 11 PM to Midnight

In FidoNet Zone 2, Zone Mail Hour is observed from 0230 to 0330 UTC.

In Fidonet Zone 3, Zone Mail Hour is observed from 1800 to 1900 UTC. In each of the time Zones involved this is:

GMT +12 Zone 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM
    (New Zealand)

GMT +10 Zone 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM
    (East Australia)
    (Papua New Guinea)
    (Micronesia)

GMT +9.5 Zone 3:30 AM to 4:30 AM
    (Central Australia)

GMT +9 Zone 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM
    (Japan)
    (Korea)
    (Eastern Indonesia)

GMT +8 Zone 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM
    (Hong Kong)
    (Taiwan)
    (Central Indonesia)
    (Philippines)
    (Western Australia)

GMT +7 Zone 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM

ARGHHH!. May bad. (Cowering head in shame)

I *had* seen those details months ago, but I couldn't remember where.

I had looked in P4 before I posted my question, *but* I only searched for the string ZMH. The acronym is established in 1.3.3, and used a few times in 2.1.8, and 2.1.9, but never used anywhere else in P4.

If I were to suggest an update to P4 it would be that once an acronym is established (eg. Zone Mail Hour (ZMH)), then stick to using just the acronym further in the document.

Sure, the index (at the end, where most people would *not* likely read for enjoyment) points ZMH to "Zone Mail Hour", and then "Zone Mail Hour" points to a bunch of paragraphs including the most relevant 10.2.

But for something as key and fundamental for being nodelisted, ZMH is a bit obfuscated with extra layers of referencing. :(

BTW, the index does not include 2.1.9 in the list for the occurrence of ZMH.

I will recover from shame after a few brews (coffee) and a few good tunes of favourite music.

I am shocked, Fabio! You, I thought, are an expert with NNTP servers and readers and you say such awful things.

Do you not recall that your favourite news reader is able to preselect the list
of posts you may want to read? If not, then you need more practice! :)

    Cheers,

I do, every morning. First check: Björn Felten's server; then, Tommi Koivula's; and finally yours. That's where I go to get my early morning news, even before checking my own machines.

Of course I'm calling "morning" as per my time. While you're still 'zapping zeds'. :)

    "0230 to 0330 UTC." :)

One day Lee will understand the answers are in P4 and that many countries have different time zones which actually shows he doesn't even understand why ZMH was required.

P4 has all the answers? To everything? My, my.
What is the ZMH for the North Pole, where Santa gets his mail?
Can't seem to find that anywhere in P4.
What is the ZMH for the International Space Station (ISS)?
Can't seem to find that anywhere in P4.
What is the ZMH for the Moon?
Can't seem to find that anywhere in P4, either.
Not even sure if Santa Claus, the ISS, or the Moon has a ZMH ...

Perhaps if you and others would quite replying to/about the

when they don't get the attention they crave.

When you have the facts, argue the facts.
When you have the law, argue the law.
When you have none, just argue.

P4 is nothing but a opinion written by a small group of unknown
individuals that has no official status in Fidonet or anywhere else.

Those are the facts. And the law of the land. Translated into
language that even you can understand - cyberjunk.

The ZMH for those places is relevant to what Fidonet zone they're listed in. Once you know that you can determine their ZMH from the data in P4.

    It's not rocket science.

I've seen a lot more from him than that. For many years he was a really

I really wonder what happened to him after he won the ZC1 Mickey Mouse

I am sure you are right, that three years ago he was "a really

    that something is.

Or maybe you don't, since you stated "I really wonder ..."

So. I guess I'll have to explain it to you.

Better yet, I'll let The Rolling Stone explain it, so that all
    can understand.

Strictly going by the latitudes, Norway should have five. But like China BF>and India they settle for just one. It kinda makes things much easier...

At the beginning of the world, back when they were passing out `time zones', Norway thought they said `pine cones', and since they already had tons of pine cones, they said `we'll just take one'!
