    Hallo Alan!

Can you send on of these messages in the e-test area so mark can
see the results and we'll know if anything bad is happening at my
    node?

Yes I can but first I'd like to take tonight off.

Secondly is the format more or less what we're looking for?

Thirdly all three paths of just one at a time? I found the three at a time very confusing and have not gotten a handle on it. Some of mark's quoted characters were tampered with (dropped trailing bytes) even though he claimed they were good at his end. I'd like to cross reference those and see if it was
something between that deleted them and not at his end.

I think this might take a little more activity to narrow this down so the e-test echoarea should be the way to go. Also I need to check if I have access
to that echoarea from the EuroPoint. Give me a day and I hopefully will be better prepared than I was for this initial test of FTN-ish triangulation. Seems like it should be of assistance.

    Hello Maurice,

see the results and we'll know if anything bad is happening at my
    node?

Yes I can but first I'd like to take tonight off.

Take all the time you need, I'm in no hurry but it would be good to get the facts around all this.

Secondly is the format more or less what we're looking for?

Yep, in this case I am just trying to make sure my node isn't doing anything unwanted. We might need to change the format as we move along to where we are going.

Thirdly all three paths of just one at a time? I found the three at a time very confusing and have not gotten a handle on it. Some of
mark's quoted characters were tampered with (dropped trailing bytes)
even though he claimed they were good at his end. I'd like to cross reference those and see if it was something between that deleted them
    and not at his end.

If possible (might take some doing) we would want different paths to see how things happen at different points along the road.

I think this might take a little more activity to narrow this down so
the e-test echoarea should be the way to go. Also I need to check if
I have access to that echoarea from the EuroPoint. Give me a day and

of FTN-ish triangulation. Seems like it should be of assistance.

I think the e-test area is more or less the net 3634 test area, so it's not on the backbone but available to those who link at 1:3634/12 (is that right mark?).

If we could get interested parties linked there (or another suitable area) we could get some facts together.

Yes. Have you seen UTF-8 encoded messages pass through 1:153/757 unaltered?

770/1 is running Fastecho. I believe FE is also a known good entity, although it strips seen-bys when tossing to an out of zone link.

Change is brewing there but it hasn't happened yet.

ahh, yeah... i don't recall all of its processing quirks, though... sad since i
ran it for so many years... the seenby stripping on interzone echomail, i do remember... that should be an option... toby is still around but i don't know if he can set up the original development environment any more to fix the bugs... i think RL has a firm grip on him, too...

Change is brewing there but it hasn't happened yet.

yup! the key is to make folks aware of the problems and to get the maintainer of the problematic software to fix it in a timely manner...

FastEcho also has a problem with the .PKT forwarding function. I sent details to Tobias Burchhardt a few months back, but he wasn't hopeful that he would be able to fix it.

    Hello Andrew,

770/1 is running Fastecho. I believe FE is also a known good
entity, although it strips seen-bys when tossing to an out of
    zone link.

FastEcho also has a problem with the .PKT forwarding function. I sent details to Tobias Burchhardt a few months back, but he wasn't hopeful
that he would be able to fix it.

One of the nodes I connect with also contacted Tobias about the seen bys being stripped when tossing to an out of zone link and got a similar response. I think Tobias would make changes if he could but that may not be possible today.

The last time FE was released ('96ish) that was the way it needed to be.
