I bet I am the weirdo in this echo, because I plan to upgrade from the DVD?
AFAIK the upgrade docs pretty much told you to switch to single user mode and apply certain updates in a certain order, else you risk breaking the system in funny ways.
libc upgrades are a bitch.
libc upgrades are a bitch.
libc upgrades are a bitch.
That is putting it mildly. glibc-2.33 was a tad more bitchier than normal methinks.
slackware just miss gentoo portage
revdep-rebuild comes handy on brokken slackpkg
slackware just miss gentoo portageI've never heard anyone using slackware ever complain about the lack
of proprietary apps before.
revdep-rebuild comes handy on brokken slackpkgHow so?
I've never used slackpkg and have never heard of
revdep-rebuild before now.
Personally I prefer slackware pkg format
to deb, rpm, whatever,
given that it requires no additional tools to
deal with it. tar and xz these days is all it takes, although mc for browsing tarballs is a nice touch.
I've never heard anyone using slackware ever complain about the
lack of proprietary apps before.
its like windows 10 never miss explore 11
revdep-rebuild fix if some precompiled installs fails with
ldd /bin/bash
or in slackware now ldd /bin/awk
you never used gentoo then
why not keep it debian then ?
slackware only uses taballs, not db files

... too late to die young :)
If you get a total broken Slackware install you can just boot a
install DVD, force an upgrade on the broken system, and then rebuild
all your "extras" with sbotools quite easily.
And it will take less time than rebuilding half your @world.
