i still have work to do with rpi3 and ssd
I decided to stick with the onboard uSD but will still use usb mounted drives when needed. I can get them to boot but noticed it is continually accessing the drive even when nothing is happening that requires read/writes when booted to a usb drive. Not sure why that is. Anyhow I now have a spare 16G msata mounted in a usb adapter if there is a need although on the raspberrypi there is still the UAS (<- USB Assisted SCSI) issue with that particular adapter. Works great on everything else, especially those with USB 3.0.
