I'm having issues.. something about tinfo and I am not sure how
to proceed.
just compiled and writed from now :)Can you compile GoldED on gentoo?

That is a ncurses compatibility issue. golded probably requires ncurses-5 which has become obsolete as of late. See https://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/development/chapter08/ncurse s.html for an excellent schpiel on how to potentially fix it.
ABI 5 is still supported via ncurses-compat, ABI 6 is now native
default
so some fix golded :)
my msged is working, just me still need to have husky from git,
not cvs

Can you compile GoldED on gentoo?
i can, just unsure how
i would build a ebuild to it, no precompiled here

tinfo is timezoneinfo ?
i have humor too
so some fix golded :)
For now. Personally, if it mattered, I'd update golded to ncurses-6 instead. However no working utf-8 so I'll stick with vim. :-)

Me too.. ;)

Yes, I always build my own if source is available. Golded source is available but it doesn't compile on gentoo for reasons I am not sure
of.

tinfo is timezoneinfo ?
It has something to do with ncurses.

Must have humor at least.
I've been reading it and pondering converting the BBS machine to
LFS. I bet golded would run fine on that.
Gentoo builds ncurses with a "tinfo" use flag. That is not a
generally used flag and I am not sure if I can or should disable
it.
Built and use golded on the 3 - no problems but for the 64 bit it would compile
abet a lot of warning messages but would not run.
Installed Ubuntu 22.04.1 on the 4 and rebuilt Golded, again with warning msgs but again it will not run just comes back immediately.
It is beginning to seriously annoy me.
One trick I have not yet tried is to copy the executable from 32 bit to the pi4 and see if it runs there.
Let me know where to get the golded source in question and I will give it a go.

Until we're sure what the real issue is I'd leave it alone. LFS doesn't but if it turns out to need it then adding "--with-termlib=tinfo" might make all the difference. That is what slackware does when building it's ncurses-6.3 libs and apps.
Yep, these new compilers are fine with new code but older
software may suffer if it's not maintained.
That indeed appears to be the case. I took the liberty of compiling the source obtained at https://github.com/golded-plus/golded-plus.git and below are the results;
:r !ldd ~/WeBeBashing/source/golded-plus/bin/gedlnx | tr -d '\t' linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007fff63bfd000)
libncursesw.so.6 => /usr/lib/libncursesw.so.6 (0x00007fe032fe4000) libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00007fe032c00000)
libm.so.6 => /usr/lib/libm.so.6 (0x00007fe032f05000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00007fe032ee4000)
libc.so.6 => /usr/lib/libc.so.6 (0x00007fe032a1f000) /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007fe033216000)
As shown, ncurses-6 widec without tinfo has no obvious compilation issues with gcc-12.2.0 and friends.
There must be a different issue.
There must be a different issue.
That is an oddball one. I'm going to have to try enabling it on one of the chroot partitions and see what is what.
This is where make fails on gentoo..
I think it wants "termname" or "tinfo" on the command line, but I
am not sure.
ABI 5 is still supported via ncurses-compat, ABI 6 is now nativeJust 6 here. I haven't needed 5 for a couple of years.

not cvs
would not help have full fleged utf8 when old precompiled amiga
software only have latin-1
if people understand why its not happend we could all use latin-1
would not help have full fleged utf8 when old precompiled amiga

Definetly not for two very good reasons; no amiga hardware and no such thing as latin-1.
if people understand why its not happend we could all use latin-1Nope. We have no use for things that do not exist, such as latin-1. Personally I vote for 7-bit ascii characters and to hell with stinkin' human languages.
A bunch of heathen bastards if you ask me. :-)
Life is good,
Maurice
please dont fix msged then
in fidoterms latin-1 does exists
in iconv it does not
i dont have references to why amiga did it, more or less maybe
filesystem was build with latin-1 in mind
feel free to not get an amiga emulator on linux
Out of interest I have a Raspberry pi3B+ and a Pi4 8Gb.
I have bullseye 32 bit on the 3 and had Bullseye 64 bit on the 4.
Installed Ubuntu 22.04.1 on the 4 and rebuilt Golded, again with warning msgs but again it will not run just comes back immediately.
