Just about any of them. Debian is a good choice. Ubuntu is based on debian.

Slackware is also a good choice and what I use although there are no pre built packages for software outside of the distribution (well, there are if you look for them).

I use slackbuilds.org to get sources and build them myself from a
*.SlackBuild script if I want to run them.

    Happy hunting.

I've become used to CentOS (Redhat based) myself - its more "corporate" if you want to call it that, but seems to be very stable.

Linux Mint is very good for home use, even though it is based on Ubuntu (or based on the stable Debian). If you have an ardent hatred for deb-based, then install Fedora or Alt.

    With best regards, Alexander.

What's the problem with Ubuntu, exactly?

Ubuntu is actually part of the Debian family, along with Mint, Raspian and several other distributions.

Another popular family is the Red Hat family, which includes CentOS and Fedora.

These days, I prefer Debian based distributions, though I still use CentOS as well.

There's other families, like Slackware, Gentoo, Arch, but these are a diverse lot and generally aimed at the more advanced Linux user.
