Never saw that movie. Was that one made when Movies Were Better
Than Ever?
It was made in the late 50's or early 60's. While there was
innuendo and suggestiveness, there wasn't any profanity.
The early '50s.
With television drawing away audiences the studios came out with
hifi sound, more colour movies, wide screen, special effects, etc to
offer what that box in the corner couldn't.
As in the past (with newspapers and radio) the studios didn't like
this new upstart and often had clauses in contracts actors couldn't
appear on tv without written permission of the studio. The newspaper
dislike radio since people could get news free and not have to buy a
paper.
By around 1955 the old studio system was broken. Instead of
contact players actors were free lancing, etc. (The studios were
also upset with their actors appearing on radio in the early days
since they (the studio) were not making any money by the actor
appearing free over the air. That changed around 1933-34. Cecil D.
DeMille and his Lux Radio Theatre paid stars big money to repeat
their movie roles. DeMille was pretty much a figure head and
interviewer, but held a lot of clout in Hollywood.
