good sandwich snack. Just put it between 2 pieces of bread, add
mustard, bacon bits, etc., and it's lunch time.
OK...
I had bought a bunch of Funions onion ring snacks, and just scarfed
a good bit of them down.
True. Our mechanics would have let us take the car home in a similar
situation.... as they say, they know where we live, so they trust us to
come up with the money in good time... meanwhile, they don't have to
store the vehicle.... :)
Unfortunately, not everyone is honest.
I was 2 cents short paying for a purchase at the Post Office today,
and the clerk said (I hope sarcastically) "I'll lock your Post Office
Box until you give me my 2 cents". :P
I understand that after a certain age, the reviews stretch to 8 years...
and once you turn 65 or so (maybe just 62), the disability turns into
regular retirement, and there aren't any more reviews...
Really?? I resigned from work in 2004, and applied for
disability...it was granted in 2006, retroactive. So, I had to do a "review" in 2009 and 2014...so by rights, there should be another one
this year. All I'd have to do is send in a 12 page medical list, and they'd see why I can't work again.
There are some things that do work against being able to serve as a
juror... :)
One guy said he'd get out by saying "I can spot a guilty [insert race/ethnic group here] halfway across a room"...but I would've said
"Only The Lord and the defendant know whether or not they're guilty.
If they are guilty, and are acquitted by a jury of their peers, they'll fare much worse when they die. So, they might as well save us all the
time and trouble, and confess now". :P
And are probably less of a danger to the environment...
True. Next thing you know, they'll be declaring sidewalks as
hazardous. :P Well, they are, if you're enamored in your smartphone,
and not paying attention to where you're going. One woman was that way, and walked into the side of a moving train. Another doing similar,
tripped and fell into a public fountain.
Tragically, Steve was killed by a sting from a stingray a few years
ago.
Yes, I remember all that... :)
I still miss him. Everyone thought he'd get killed by a crocodile,
and not a stingray.
As you know, I'm not a fan of Windows... and am still happily using
DOS... Richard uses mostly DOS, and has installed Linux on some of his
machines which he uses second most.... Some of his machines do have
Windows, partly because there are times when he has to check something
out on multiple platforms... and partly because for some things one has
to use something from Windows to do certain things on the web... I've
learned that Windows10 can be useful for a few things... at least the
machine he has with the Win10 is a touchscreen, which makes things a
little less upsetting for me...
I still don't know if I want to bite the upgrade bullet.
I had bought a bunch of Funions onion ring snacks, and just scarfed
a good bit of them down.
Those can be tasty, too... :)
True... and our mechanics don't trust all their customers the way they
do us, to be sure... We've been bringing our vehicles to them for over
20 years... :)
I'm pretty sure the clerk had to be joking...

Can't really blame either of those on the sidewalks.... And around here, NB>people are as likely to be walking in the streets instead of on the NB>sidewalks....
I'm certainly not advising you on that... one way or the other... I may NB>be slightly reconciled to Win10, but that doesn't mean I'd recommend it, NB>or any other Windows, for that matter... :)

It's good when you have a place you can trust. An area Chevrolet Dealership takes good care of my Buick LeSabre (formerly my Mom's, but she'll never drive again)...I sold the Chevrolet Cavalier just before Christmas last year. However, I still have to "pay them for services rendered"...and that's only right. I just didn't have the money last
month to get it for 10 days. It looked like yesterday, that the left headlight is out...but that will just eliminate driving in the rain or
at night...which I don't care to do anyway.
I'm pretty sure the clerk had to be joking...
I was still able to get into the P.O. Box yesterday. :P I did mail a
deal to Cabot yesterday, and put extra postage (forever stamps) on it
to be sure it got there...at least I hope it did. The Postal Service
has LOST several pieces of mail to/from me (including bills and bill payments), so I now pay bills over the phone, if at all possible.
And you are seeing doctors regularly, who also can vouch for your
inability to work... How old are you now....? This may soon be a
thing of the past....
I just turned 59 late last month...will hit the big six-oh next
year. <G>

This is true. Although if they find out you have had criminal
justice courses in college, are a lawyer, in law enforcement, a
paramedic, or on active duty in the military, you probably will get excused. Had I mentioned the criminal justice course I had in college
when I was at the orientation, they might have had my name stricken
from the jury pool. Yet, for so many folks, they would be "ruined financially" if they had to serve.
I'm certainly not advising you on that... one way or the other... I
may be slightly reconciled to Win10, but that doesn't mean I'd
recommend it, or any other Windows, for that matter... :)
Well, I can't afford it right now. I heard someone say that
Microsoft would offer the upgrade for free during April to Windows 7
and 8 users, but I haven't seen anything official on that. However, I would have to make a backup of the data on the BBS computer, my laptop, and what was my Mom's computer, before starting the OS upgrade. The BBS would be down for a time while I did such.
... Windows is not a virus ... viruses do something.
Windows is also a pain in the glass. <G>
So just hope that you don't get caught out in the rain... ;)
Often clerks have a little stash of pennies (and sometimes larger coins) NB>that can be tossed into the till to make up a little shortfall... I've NB>had that happen at the grocery store, where I needed a penny to make the NB>change come out even, that the clerk would offer a penny or two...
Yup, then you probably have at most only one more disability review to NB>deal with... :)
The only case where that's remotely the case, would be the grand jury NB>duty where the term is for months on end, I think 6 months at a time... NB>one can be excused from that when one is a sole proprietor with no NB>employees to carry on the business in one's absence... Most employers
pay their employees their regular pay when on jury duty, especially the NB>salaried ones... And often one only actually has to serve for a day or NB>two... :)

So, when the "juror phone" opened at 7:30am on Tuesday, I was "on thehorn" to find out if there was a trial.
I was lucky in that there were others at work and if I did have one
come up I just had to let my super know, which I had per-arranged in JM>advance.

I did, today. I didn't think the mail had run, so I went out to
check the Post Office Box, and drop the postcard off in the mail. It poured on the way home.
Often clerks have a little stash of pennies (and sometimes larger coins)
that can be tossed into the till to make up a little shortfall... I've
had that happen at the grocery store, where I needed a penny to make the
change come out even, that the clerk would offer a penny or two...
I saw him today, and told him I could give him the 2 cents, and he
said "don't worry about it". That gives a whole new meaning of
"putting ones 2 cents into the conversation". :P
The only case where that's remotely the case, would be the grand jury

Since I worked at a family business, I didn't get that. I basically forfeited a days pay. At least I only had to serve 1 day a week, and a total of 8 times in 6 months. So, when the "juror phone" opened at
7:30am on Tuesday, I was "on the horn" to find out if there was a
trial. If there was, I told the boss "I'll be gone for part or all of
the day".
You lucked out, though... didn't get picked up, and got home safely... :)
Yep... :) And made it clear that he was just joking with you before.. :)
Were you paid by the hour...? Sounds, too, like your system is a little NB>different from ours.... :)

Thankfully. I had a nightmare when I got back home. The outside
storm door, which was UNLOCKED when I left, was LOCKED when I got home...and there was NO KEY AVAILABLE. I had to yank hard on the door several times to get it open, and nearly broke my wrist. When I can get some money, I'm going to replace the key and lock in the door, instead
of the entire door.
Were you paid by the hour...? Sounds, too, like your system is a
little different from ours.... :)
Yep...in all cases where I worked. The one exception was when I
delivered an afternoon newspaper route in south Florida (that paper is
now long gone). I was paid by how many subscribers I had, and was paid every 2 weeks. Now around Christmas time, I'd buy and send out signed Christmas Cards to each customer. When I went to collect payment from those who didn't "pay by mail", in some cases, they only owed $1.20
(10 cents a day for 6 days a week for 2 weeks -- there was no paper on Sunday), they'd give me a $10 or $20 bill, and tell me to keep the change!!
Did the door lock itself somehow....?
You had some generous customers there.... that obviously appreciated the NB>service you were providing them.... :)

My guess is that some mischevious kids in the neighborhood came by,
and did it as an act of meanness and vandalism.

I had a few "difficult ones", but most I got to convert from paying
in cash to "pay by mail". Those I didn't have to bother every 2 weeks.
It got so where instead of paying the paper, they paid me. The papers
were bought at wholesale, I sold them at retail, and the difference was
my profit.
Possible... another possibility could be winds slamming the door just NB>wrong and the lock catching...
My son had a paper route for a while, so yes, I do know how it works.. :)

We had several Tornado Warnings in the region today...and some
damage. So, that's a possibility as well (the winds). But, I have taped the knob to make sure it doesn't catch and lock the door when I go out. But, I eventually will replace the lock on the door.
My son had a paper route for a while, so yes, I do know how it works.. :)
I never thought I'd get the black newsprint off my hands -- and when
I was in silkscreen printing, I never thought I'd have clean hands
again, either. I resigned the newspaper job before moving to Arkansas,
and resigned the silkscreen print job 15 years ago, due to declining health.

Taping the knob is probably a wise idea... And you'll replace with NB>something less likely to lock on its own...?
So are your hands finally clean again....? <G>
