Several years ago I sent a small donation to a national charity after
some disaster or other. They keep sending me "reminders" to give them more. They have spent several times over what I gave them in paper and postage.

I was in a local stationary/office supply business one day.
I asked if they had any for that year left in the large size I wanted and
was sold one for half price, since it was mid-January.
I don't know if I got it that cheap since the new year had started, I
knew the boss or once temped there briefly years before. I didn't ask questions, I just bought it. :)

Mine end up in a stack with the Income tax return forms and receipts...
it's part of the paperwork... :)

I keep my tax files in order. And they go back 50 or more years.
I want to be on the safe side in case the IRS comes around questioning a return from 1972 or so. :)

Those big desk calendars do have a lot of room in their boxes....

in the house, I have the rest of them, going back to probably 73 or
before... we married in 73, and before that I did my own individual
ones... I'm like you, rather have them in case... not that I expect it
to be very likely, especially that far back, though... ;)

A couple of winters ago I got into a cleaning mood and weeded out some of those.
That's to be another winter project, going to through a lot of of stuff
in there.

It may have been...but I remember it was "discounted".

Although I saw one deal at Wal-Mart...a sign noted "Was [price]" then
"Now [price]"...and the "now price" was higher!! :P

I lived in a small town in SE Colorado at one time. (One stop on my last trip).
We had the usual small town department stores, hardware, drug stores, etc downtown. (Now they are all gone with a big box store taking all that business).
The prices in that town where always higher than other places since there
was one of whatever and could charge pretty much whatever they wanted. The nearest town of any size was 90 minutes (at 70 mph) away.
I used to joke about prices "Regular price $1.99, special Trinidad price, $2.50". :)

So much for "Always The Low Price". <G>

I have noticed whenever a big box store moves in their prices are lower. Then when the competition is gone they start to gradually edge up till they
are the same price as other stores.
They may be a few cents cheaper on this, but equal to others on
everything else of equal products.

much of a clue where to start looking any more....

Mommy taught me and my seven siblings all how to play the piano... it
took best with me and one of my siblings... the others only learned
some, and then either went to something else, or dropped it
completely... all of us can pick out something on the piano to this day, though... When I tried to teach my son, he couldn't learn from me, but
she was able to teach him some... :)
