Hello Sean!

I believe to be sufficient that the reader is able to read CP437.
Every old mail reader does that.
Indeed. My BBS uses CP437 and Multimail uses CP437 so it all
works for me.
But the original did not have any char kludge. But not all readers
fall back to CP437 as a default. Usually the default is to just use
the plain text range?
BTW.. OpenXP has been adjusted to announce CP437 in lieu of the hottly
debated IBM437.
This message should have the former if I include some graphic lines:

Indeed it does when viewed with GoldED+ but when viewed with OpenXP, the CHRS kludge is IBM437:

Ummmmmmm, not quite sure what's going on here, it's just as though OpenXP has changed CP437 2 back to IBM437, IYSWIM ???????

And this is happening with the SAME message on YOUR system?
Then it is CHANGING enroute to you?!! That is very inelegant. :(
Or.. Is this happening with the Linux version, locally?
Ummmmmmm, not quite sure what's going on here, it's just as though
OpenXP has changed CP437 2 back to IBM437, IYSWIM ???????
If you think it's OpenXP doing it, is it happening in both Linus and Win versions?
I am guessing that this Velenos session will send this repkl msg with CP850. That's what your original arriving here had.
Yep, that's exactly what's happened because where *incoming* Fido
messages are concerened, I've finally realised that OpenXP uses its own prorietary kludges. Couple of examples .....

WHAAAT? You've only noticed that now after all these years? LOL
I guess you never used Ctl-O very much. <g>

Oh, I'd noticed it a looooooooong time ago but I hadn't realised until just recently that OpenXP changes kludges on *incoming* FTN messages to its own proprietery kludges.
I guess you never used Ctl-O very much. <g>
I do use it but I've never found it particularly useful :(
