• Import tariffs

From Joseph Pereira@1:124/5016 to All on Friday, May 02, 2025 06:07:14
The US Senate has chosen to support Trump's import tariffs. As a result, they remain in effect, and the import tariffs are now partly 'owned' by the Republicans. If the negative consequences become known in the coming months, it could seriously backfire on the party.

Joseph, did you not know about the filibuster rule?

Devilcrats still control the senate despite the slim majority that Republicans have.

And did you not know about the bribery rule?

Devilcrats are backed by Hungarian billionaires who pay them to vote a certain way on things.

Yesterday, Trump announced which countries will be subjected to higher import tariffs. These are primarily Asian countries. The deadline has been moved to August 1st. I don't think people are taking it very seriously anymore.

The import tariffs may be declared illegal permanently, simply because Trump lacked the justification to impose them.

The US job figures are dismal. Who should Trump fire now?

And China announced that exports to the US fell by 33% in August. Yet they claim to have achieved 4% growth in total exports. If that's true, then they routed their exports to the US through other countries.

Until they're brought before the supreme court. The same court that
judged that you can't use race to influence admission to university but
you *can* use race to detain people.

    It's all fake news!

Or other countries are taking up the slack?

Trump has adjusted his strategy regarding import tariffs. He's now focusing on market sectors and less on countries. For example, he now wants to impose tariffs on medicines (100%), home appliances, kitchens and bathrooms (30%), and trucks (25%). His remark that the import tariffs on kitchens are a matter of national security is noteworthy. Has he ever cut himself on an Ikea knife?

China will remove virtually all import duties for African countries in May. This is a good thing for African economies. Especially since the US has just imposed increased import duties on the hellholes in Africa, they will be even more eager to do business with China.

The US is going to lower some import tariffs. Apparently, it is hurting their economy too much, and they are very quietly backing out.
