• Pi-Hole - EasyPrivacy blocks startpage.com

    From s|b@3:770/3 to All on Saturday, December 07, 2024 17:16:52
    I've been using a RPi4 for some time now, always with the default
    adlist:

    <https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts>

    Today I added EasyPrivacy

    <https://v.firebog.net/hosts/Easyprivacy.txt>

    and the problems began. I wasn't able to reach startpage.com anymore.
    Logs showed Pi-Hole was blocking

    vf.startpage.com

    which is part of the EasyPrivacy list. I tried whitelisting it in Domain management, but it doesn't work, so now I've disabled EasyPrivacy.

    I'm obviously doing something wrong, but what? How can I enable the
    adlist and still have access to startpage.com?

    Must be coincidence, eu.startpage.com seems to be down according to:

    That's a great irony; my olde (XP vintage) browser doesn't allow me to type anything in the search box!

    It's not a coincidence: startpage has been having problems since Dec 6.
    It has nothing to do with me reinstalling Pi-Hole and adding adlists. I
    found a thread in Reddit:

    <https://www.reddit.com/r/StartpageSearch/comments/1h8oenx/startpagecom_down/>

    Apparently it's the EU servers; they've been working on and off. The US
    servers should work.

    I also found this: <https://www.electrondepot.com/rpi/pi-hole-easyprivacy-blocks-startpage-com-4368425-.htm>

    No, they're not. How rude.
