Hey Maurice.. a friend of mine started to dabble with recompiling openxp and identified a few files that need extra attention:

grep .pas errs | uniq

Also, take a look inside the distros.txt file. It mentions a few things about ncurses that may apply to your linux build.

Not sure what your "linuxfromscratch" requires, but the openxp stuff seems to be tailored for debian-based distros.

No surprise there. Anyhow I did manage to get a working freepascal going which I then used to recompile the freepascal source with. Seems to be working except for compiling openxp which is the only reason I bothered at all. I may pick this up after the new glibc upgrade but I have serious doubts about this. Fortunetly I've had utf-8 working just fine with gcc and friends so this really isn't needed ... perhaps not even desirable.

gcc is most definetly the way to go.
