Hi, I am wondering what software people are using to handle TIC files.

I'd like to setup a DOS-based solution as that fits with my Maximus BBS configuration - but I am also curious what is in use on other OSes as well.

I remember Allfix, I think that's what I used in the 90s. It seems a bit heavy for my needs now, are features like searching for files via echomail widely supported anymore?

Not really. If you're just receiving files to populate your file bases and you want a simple thing to do so and possibly send out an announcement about it, give TinyTic a try.

It's probably one of the smallest tic processors out there. But if you ever want to forward those files elsewhere, or hatch files yourself, you'll have to go with something with more features as this program won't do any of that.

TinyTIC looks like a great simple solution! Maybe down the road I will find reason to forward or hatch files but for just handling received TIC files, TinyTIC should fit my needs.

Is there much file distribution besides nodelists and network infopacks and astronomy pictures of the day? That seems to be mostly what I've seen around.

I used the tic program years ago (with maximus IIRC) and I suppose it would still work today as it did then.

That's about the majority of it these days. Anything else worthwhile is usually just a point and click away - and probably much faster than transferring over binkp or telnet.

And if it takes upwards of a year for an artpack to come out, some (including myself) may forget that they were actually hatching them out at one time. :)

That makes sense, for sure it makes things harder to keep running when it's not used on the regular. A lot of time and dedication for niche distribution.

Yes. I have it setup the fame way as FSX_FIL the same way so folks searching for files in either area will get a reply if any local files here match the search.

ALLFIX is now free, and if you don't want to use the other stuff, don't. That's what I do ... telnet ttb.rgbbs.info and grab the free version if you don't have it.

No problem. Also check out the CD-ROM door. I have 173 shareware CD-ROMs online as well, almost 1 TB of cd files.

Back in the early 90s, I have 4 Panasonic CD-ROM drives hooked to my SB16 card, and then 2 4x4 IDE changers, so I had 12 online in like 1995. Man those changers were noisy at 3am! :) Glad I have the HDD space now to just host the ISOs in a directory. :)

the same as the ship. The spelling/theme has nothing to do with the ship, it's just an old nickname I had in baseball from a friend of mine who

1995. Man those changers were noisy at 3am! :)

Haha, you reminded me of something. I started my first BBS in
1994 using an old Televideo computer. The BBS program and any
files I had were on 2 large floppy discs. No hard drive.

When someone would call my BBS, I could hear the floppy drives
grinding away. It was a ton of fun though.
