From Apam@21:1/188.2 to All on Thursday, March 16, 2017 11:33:00
    Hi All

Just a heads up, I've updated the git repo to include a configurable
"Turns Per Day" and also added Protection.

This will be incompatible with any of the binaries I sent out before. I
just want to test it some more then I'll make new binaries available.

    :)

I tagged a release and uploaded a Windows compiled version.

    https://github.com/apamment/galactic-dynasty/releases/tag/v0.2.0-alpha

On linux download the source code and run ./build.sh you'll need git,
    make and sqlite3-dev

    On Windows, download the binary.

You will need to run reset.sh (or reset.bat) even on games in progress.

Edit galactic.ini to set the number of turns per day, and the number of
    turns in protection.

Good man thanks :) I'll look tonight when home and set it up.

I'm keen to sort the interBBS stuff so will look to set this up at the 1/100 HUB and test with /101

I like the idea of getting this running across nodes that want to use it in fsxNet :)

    it in

Yeah, hopefully it will work haha. There's also no "anti-cheating" code,
so someone could give their system 999999 turns of protection and 999999
turns a day when everone else has set to the agreed amount.

I think we're all pretty honest, and cheating in a door game is pretty
lame anyway, so I don't really see it as a problem.

The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is the BBS.CFG
file, they all want to be in sync, and I haven't thought of the best way
to do this other than getting the sysops to update when a new node is
    added.

Having said that, if the files aren't in sync things shouldn't explode,
if they do that's a bug.

The other thing I should do is make the file name configurable, so for
example you want to have two games going, you will need a different
filename like GALTWO or something so the game know which files are for
    it.

Anyway, it's all experimental, if anyone has any suggestions, ideas for improvements bugfixes, or anything, let me know.

At anyrate I am sure we'll have fun tinkering even if the game doesn't
    run well :P

I'll play around with it and see how everything runs here.

Ok, I did notice one small issue. I noticed that you had logged on and
started a game. From in the game, I tried to send you a message, and it said
I couldn't because you were still under protection. I could understand that
for an attack, but protection shouldn't have anything to do with a message.

After playing two days worth of turns, that was the only thing that I've
found. I am really enjoying the concept of the game. :)

I have not been able to type in a message to the other system (HUB) that I

It seems the option is to press a key and it says sent.. ?

Well if it's a Star configuration the nodes would just need one entry for outbound packets to a HUB system right? The HUB config would be full of outbound links.

    Question.

If several nodes send interbbs packets to a HUB do the packet names somehow equate to the node sending the data or is that contained in the packet? I figure the latter. If so do you think each node should somehow generate slightly different interbbs file names so as to ensure no two or more systems cause problems at a HUB when lots of packets arrive for processing?

Tonight I set up v2 at the HUB and saw it ingest a packet sent to it via filebox from my /101 node (Agency). Funny thing is when I ran the maint bit
the output reported 0 messages in/out yet a packet was created and sent to
/100 and I had tried to create a message to the HUB from within the game.

As mentioned to BP I can't seem to type a message to the /100 system rather just press a key and seemingly send a message to it - is that right?

    No rush on the fix.:)

For the heck of it, I connected the two copies on my system to simulate an InterBBS setup. (I just used the outbound from one as the inbound of the
other, and vice versa) Is there a specific command to generate the outbound processing of packets? Just running the game isn't generating anything for
    the other system.

    Thanks

slightly different interbbs file names so as to ensure no two or more systems
cause problems at a HUB when lots of packets arrive for processing?

The current way relys on the mailer to rename conflicting inbound files.
I just assumed Mystic would rename the file if it already existed in the
    inbox. Binkd appends a .1 .2 .3 etc.

I suppose we could make it use a common extension and then just random
numbers for the actual filename instead. or some combination of the node
    and date.

I'm not really sure what you mean. You send a message to a player, not a system. So, when you go to send an intergalactic message, it will list
all systems it knows, then all players on that system it knows about,
you select the player, type in your message and press enter.

It won't know about players until it's gotten their score from the other system.

I know it works on linux because I've sent myself messages, but perhaps
there is an issue on windows.

    Yep, you run 'GalacticDynasty maintenance'

The idea is you run that at predefined intervals, and it imports any
    packets and exports packets.

Oh, the fix is in git :)

    Timeout ³ 60
    Force CRAM-MD5 ³ No
    Allow Unsecure ³ Yes
    File Conflicts ³ Rename

In the case of Mystic the file conflicts switch would need to be set to 'rename' as I have set on my BBS (see above) but there's no guarantee every Mystic system would have this set. The alternative is Mystic skips the file.
So offering a unique file per submitting node is a good move IMHO :)
