One of the first sysops I got tangled up with, ended up joining the navy, as a submariner no less, so once out on deployment there was no going home, and no ET phone home. His BBS fell over about a week after deployment.

I don't recall quite what happened after that, but about 2 weeks later one of my users, who also used the other bbs, popped up asking if I could host it for a while. I think I had it for about 3 months or so, when the submariner finally surfaced, downloaded his BBS back and rebuilt it.

I don't think I've ever had any similar failures. But the first time I moved home both of the boot drives got trashed. So we had to start from scratch again. I don't remember what happened to the one in system, but the spare dropped its heads, and couldn't find track 0.... just sat there spinning up and
down, endlessly searching.
