Ok, I think the server is up and stable.

    At: tlp.zapto.org:27960

It has 6 maps that rotate on 15 kills or 20 Minutes

Maps and some other goodies are available at, tlp.zapto.org/QIII links off the web page.

    Big Al,

Have you got a copy of the q3la, log analyzer? I can google references to it, and installations putting out stats or demos. But can't find a download for it anywhere.

Are you doing something different with your messages? I see ~M in
column 1 of all but the first line of your message for that past day
    or three.

Ahh no, is anyone else seeing that? The whole way down the message?

I don't see anything locally when reading back through the base, only thing after that might be FastEcho for some reason?

Every time I've looked in its quiet, although I've seen evidence at times of having just missed someone. I think we need a signalling system, maybe something like a mailing-list, so you can punt off a message and anyones
who's free will know theres something happenings.

    Ideas?

After some looking into the q3la compile error, I have it compile and apparently running. However I ran into a problem I used to have, and have no idea how to fix.

The ioquake3 server isn't generating any log file. Despite have set

    seta g_log "/home/ioquake3/games.log"
    seta g_logSync "1"
    seta log_default "1"
    seta log_stat "1"

And the idea that it is meant to be generating a log anyway somewhere. There is nothing, nada, zip. Hard to generate stats with no log.

Was able to connect today! Unfortunately from my location latency
    is over 300ms, so I don't think I'll do too well :)

Low 300's isn't tooo bad... closer to 400 not so much fun. You know what they say, you gotta be in it to win it :)

    - Some extra skins and models.

I think I have the maps ready here but I'm not sure about the skins
and models. Is there a .pk3 for those?

Its a raft of .pk3 files stuck in a .zip file. They're all marvel skins actually. The extra model is Conni, who's needed for black widow and someone else, not sure who...

Seeing as .pk3 files are just renamed .zip files already, it should be possible to merge them all into 1 .pk3 file but thats for another day.

    seta g_log "/home/ioquake3/games.log" seta g_logSync "1" seta log_default "1" seta log_stat "1"

Is `/home/ioquake3/` a directory that already exists, and is owned

Actually it wasn't... it was still owned by root. The log file ended up in /root/.q3a/home/games.log Strange place but I didn't find it until I went
    a "du -a |grep games"

Its been modified now so that ioquake is a user and owns all of that mess, so that games.log is closer to home. And I've made a link to the baseq3 dir where the .q3la binary is.

    server.cfg

The server rate appears to be a decimalised value of bytes. Increasing it from 8000 to 20000 gave me a transfer rate over LAN of some 20Kb/s however lifting it to 50000 has only got it doing ~30Kb/s so maybe its capped somewhere or in much larger numbers its not a linear progression.

The guys at lvlworld.com just put out a map pack to mark 20 years
for lvlworld.com. It's a big DL, about 330MB, but that pack looks
good and would add a nice variety to the rotation.

At the moment I'm more worried about the stuff that isn't working properly, like user models and skins... any why bots are borked. I can't find anything solid about any of that, other than there have been bot problems with ioquake, its very hard to any solutions.

It doesn't look like anyone remembers or wants to use the QIII server, and I'm in the process of rationalising some of my power consumption. So its looking like I'll be taking it down.

Any last requests or pleas? Its still sitting on tlp at the default Q3 port.

I never got into Q3. I used to play a lot of Q2 Thunderwalker CTF. I
had a clan which was virtually unbeatable. Loved the grapple

Strange, if I recall right, and I didn't mess with 1 or 2 for very long, I thought 2 was a rather sad beast.. each to their own as they say. I didn't move

into quake until the RIVA TNT chip set came along, so I got to look at both pretty much at the same time. 1 seemed to play better to me. Never played it multiplayer though.
