I was in an accident with my well-loved 2014 Toyota Plug-in Prius, and
I know it's normal, but that's such a weird phrasing. Somehow, cars
just kinda crash themselves, when we talk about them.
I've been in many accidents, this was the first one in 42 years of
driving that was my fault.

Sorry about the discussion, honestly. I didn't really mean to make it about you personally, and it's rough to have that happen, even if it
was preventable. Controlling a vehicle is impossible to do 100%
perfectly, and sucks that your luck ran out when you made that
particular mistake.
But sounds like no one wound up injured, and since you've talked about insurance, it seems like nothing really life-changing happened for
anyone, so I hope the problems are minimal.
My condolences on the well-love 2014 Prius being totaled, regardless. I hope you are able to find a good replacement that meets a less sudden fate, when you're done with it in however many years.

I have a 2018 BMW i3 charging in my driveway now. :)
Now, all I need to do is get an electrician to call back. I can charge
off of a standard 110v outlet, but it takes 12 hours.

That's good enough for when you get home from work in the evening and leave for work the following morning.
My Prius did rock - go 60-65 and I'd stretch the tank for a good 450 miles.

I recently bought a new car, but I'm wondering if I should have
considered buying a Prius.. Probably not a plug-in, since I live in an apartment and don't have a good way to charge a car, but I've always
heard they get really good gas mileage. I decided on a Mazda becauase
they don't use CVTs in their cars (Toyota and Honda both do), and I've heard Mazdas are good reliable cars. And I think this Mazda 3 gets
fairly decent fuel economy for a purely gas car.

I own a 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Traded in a Prius to purchase it. The Prius reliably got around 50 MPG and the Fusion gets around 40 MPG but it is a much sturdier vehicle.
Anyway, the car started making a whirring noise which bothered me, so I took it to the Ford dealer. I found out that the normal warranty is 75,000 miles, but the transmission is warrantied for 100,000 miles. I have around 98,000 miles on it now, so the work will be done for free and a $0 deductible. The dealer also gave me a free loaner car since I purchased the vehicle was purchased from them

That's good that you were able to get it taken care of under warranty so soon
before the warranty expired.

We had the predecessor to that model, the Protege 5. It was a pretty fantastic car to drive. Initially I was thinking we should get the stick shift, but when I sat in the automatic, I thought "this is fiiiine, just fiiiine!" We apparently ended up running it pretty hard after some years, because that little 4banger siezed up and one of the piston connecting rods turned to butter, folded in two, and eventually fell out of a hole that had been busted out by another rod.
Awesome car, though. A friend of mine has had one since they came out. You're going to enjoy it.

You get used to a CVT, and it's a mileage improvement.
I've got a 2011 CX-9 with 140K miles going strong. I think any car nowadays can go at least 150K if you mind the fluids.

Yeah, I imagine that's true.

My daughter is using a Mazda CX-5 for her college transportation. I think it's just a tad over 110,000 miles now and so far it's been dependable with decent gas mileage...
