I'm installing MRC on the BBS but I'm running into a problem.

As that is the only server showing on the list in the download, am I doing
the comnand wrong or is there a newer server list I need to find?

I don't want you to get discouraged; I've seen your woes as you start to setup a system. Just know that we ALL went thru the setup issues. Learning how Mystic add-ons work, and etc... LOL.

Funny thing is, even way later when you kinda know a LOT; things will still trip you up. SO, don't trip...

Things to remember with MRC. Ok... the server must be loaded, first, before you try to run any MRC menu commands.

So, make sure the server is loaded in the background. OK, check.
Make sure you have the newest MRC software.
Make sure you've compiled it using './mplc mrcfilename.mps'...
Create a menu command in Mystic thats something like: (GX) /home/pi/mystic/themes/default/scripts/mrc_client

Then jump on yer BBS and enter the MRC rooms.

Type '/bbses' to see a list of BBSes connected... this will show that you're server is all connected.
Then, try to say hello. Someone is usually in there.

If not, we can make a phone call and help out...
Or, if you know how to setup VNC I can login and help...
Or, we'll iron it out. :P

I'll run through the steps again. I'm missing something simple. Everything apoears to be working, but The only command when I'm ine MRC that actually
does anything is /quit.

The cyberia server is long gone. You need to change that to mrc.bottomlessabyss.net 5000

Plus it sounds like you're using an old version of MRC - you will want to get the latest which I think is 1.29a (but I'm not sure.) I read somewhere that older versions will be disabled.

So I am attempting to get MRC chat working. I downloaded MRC client. I followed the instructions and ran the python mrc_client which is connecting to mrc.bottomlessabyss.net and it will echo the server traffic back to me.

However, when running mrc_client.mpx from the BBS, The very first running it shows me connected, displays the messages from Johnny etc.. but then doesn't seem to work anymore. THe messages I type don't go anywhere, I get no feedback from commands I input. However, I can see the commands going to the python script as I do them. Also I see conversation from the python script, as well as join/parts, but none of it is making it to the MPL client.

There must be something I am missing here? Can anyone help?

Ok, So I figured out I was just using an older version that didnt function properly. The newer one I have seems to be working.

Does anyone already have a MRC client that can work ok on a 132x36 screen ? It seems this one can only do 80x25. On a larger sreen it seems to put things in the wrong places.

You need to get mrcX client for 132x37 mrc use, grab from my repo here; https://erb.pw/y/mrcxbeta

Once you got it running, make sure to set the screen size autodetection to on by doing this in mrcX;
/set scrdetect

That should help you. I use mrcX in 132x37 all the time, it's superb.

I forget what caused that but it was a stupid setting I had messed up. Something like not having the port forwarded or something simple.

Check your settings.

1.3.7 runs fine here.

Or maybe the location of the MRC directory. I think I ran into it when I made a new theme and forgot to copy the MRC into the new theme script dir.

I've heard of that reported, but haven't experienced it myself. I believe it was commonly an installation error.

Make sure your theme.ini files are in the scripts directory and the ansi's are in the Text directory. I had the same sort of issue a while back. That could be it.

Thanks for the explanation. I was confused that this post was posted in "Mystic BBS Support/DEV," and that the version number would have been perfectly fitting as the next Mystic release. The abbreviation "MRC" could also have been "Mystic Releases Candidate."

Unfortunately, after an eight-year break, I've only been back online for two weeks now, so I'm missing the previous posts.
