I have changed over to MBSE so I don't have the ability to poll you with

    Hello Al

How do you like and what are you running it on top of, I tried installing it
a while back and ran into nothing but trouble and really never got it install.

Tell me more if you would.

MBSE is not as simple to install as other packages. It's not really hard
either but you have to understand what you are doing and why.

If you have questions about installing or running MBSE just ask.. :)

Tell me more if you would.

MBSE is a strong mailer/ticer/tosser. A sysop with many links will like it
as well as those linked nodes. That might be my bias showing there.. ;)

The BBS side of MBSE is a little thin but most features work as intended.

I have never advertised it but you (or anyone) is welcome to check out the
    BBS at telnet://trmb.ca

When you log into MBSE for the first time you need to answer all the usual questions, real name, alias etc. At the end of that you will be asked to
create a username and password for login and then it will hang up. You can
then login with that username (you might use havok) and password to log into the BBS.

I read recently that there was a new developer in the MBSE BBS crew so there may be new features or fixes coming to MBSE.

I could talk about MBSE in great detail if anyone wanted to hear it.

    sure :)

i remember trying out MBSE but did not like that it creates a linux user
    for every bbs user.

I never cared for that either but it does work. It is good in that it stores passwords securely outside of the BBS. If you ever back up your BBS you have
to remember to take a copy of your /etc/passwd file also.. :)

maybe i give it a second try. but yes, how to backup mbse and all home
folders and how to keep it seprerate from a second bbs on the same system
    is interessting to me.

Will it happily create new message areas when it tosses echomail areas it has not received? Can you set up defaults for how/where etc. this is handled?

Yes, HPT will create the message bases as long as you have defaults that you give it. There are some that get set up under the links, and then you can set further defaults for each network.

Here's what I have for uplink defaults:

    LinkDefaults begin
    ArcmailSize 1000
    PktSize 500
    allowEmptyPktPwd on
    allowPktAddrDiffer off
    Packer zip
    Level 200
    ForwardRequests off
    AutoCreate on
    CreateAreasCase lower
    delNotReceivedTIC on
    areafixName AreaFix
    ArcNetmail on
    packNetmail off
    EchomailFlavour crash
    netMailFlavour crash
    Flavour crash
    AutoAreaCreateSubdirs off
    filefixName FileFix
    FileEchoFlavour Normal
    AutoFileCreateSubdirs off
    areafixAutoCreateFile /home/dan/husky/areas
    filefixAutoCreateFile /home/dan/husky/fileareas
    LinkDefaults end

Then, the defaults for fsxNet echos:

    EchoAreaDefaults -b Jam -g fsx -a 21:1/186 -dupecheck move -dupehistory 1100 EchoArea FSX_BBS /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_bbs -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_BOT /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_bot -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_CRY /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_cry -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_DAT /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_dat -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_ENG /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_eng -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_GEN /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_gen -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_HAM /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_ham -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_MAG /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_mag -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_MYS /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_mys -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100 EchoArea FSX_NET /home/dan/mystic/msgs/fsx/fsx_net -g fsx -a 21:1/186 21:1/100

    Yes.

I haven't used the feature in many years but you can give a link the ability to

do this with the keyword "AreafixAutoCreateDefaults".

If BP has this setup he may have a better handle on it than I do. It's a tricky

option to setup. I think you'll need "AutoAreaCreateFile" also depending on your setup.

Yup, I have that set for hubs but not nodes.

Good, as I want to merge down (ultimately) the 3:770/1 21:1/100 and 21:1/10 HUBs into one system.

I might do that here as well. Once I get everything set up for the Hub 4 change, I may just put it on the CRBBS system. Then I would have another
system that I would have to find a use for... ;)
