    Hi,

does anyone here in fsxNet have one of the fsxNet InterBBS games set up in
a Synchronet BBS and could give me some advice on how to set it up?

I don't understand yet how to attach the InterBBS games to the message
    flow here...

    Thank you very much!

    Regards,
    Anna

I guess it doesnt really related to "messages", most InterBBS games send "files" around (that the message system ignores when tossing inbound mail packets).

So you need to have another task that processes the inbound files, and for outbound, its easier if you put them in a filebox to send to the appropriate uplink.

So for me, I have a timed event (run multiple times per day) that runs a batch file.

That batch file looks for specific game packets, runs the games maintenance utility, and then places any outbound game packets in a filebox (which binkit takes care of the next time it talks to the system).

Most of the Synchronet InterBBS games and stuff like the oneliner and graffiti wall directly connect to the main server, don't use the message areas. Take a look at the configuration files in whichever game you are setting up, they are pretty self-explanatory. I do have a Synchronet instance set up here that folks can rlogin into for a few specific games.

I am far from being a synch expert though. I would ask on one of the Synchronet echoes.

Most of the Synch specific games just require you to set up a server.ini in it's directory under xtrn. Mine from syncwall looks like this:

    host = bbs.electronicchicken.com
    port = 10088

If you were going to only run it locally you would put the host to 'localhost' and set up the json service if I recall.

I know these games and their configuration - and have some of them
    configured in my BBS.

My question was more about the 'classic' InterBBS games which don't use direct IP connections but use message echos or fileboxes to exchange game data.
Some message networks, like fsxNet, have some of these games running but
most README files about setting these games up are only for Mystic BBS and
I think I lack the last bit of understanding on how to set these up in Synchronet: The game data files need to be inserted and extracted from the 'normal' message flow somehow...

Okay, I think I'm beginning to understand it.

I'm just irritated by the Synchronet wiki where the page for SBBSecho
claims that "BinkIT does not support inboxes" and it has "experimental support for outboxes".
Do you use these settings for the linked nodes or do you place the files directly in the linked node's directories (with the numbered directories)?
And your batch file looks into /sbbs/fido/inbound and moves the game files from there?

    Thank you very much!

AFAIK there is no way to implement an inbox reliably.

Yeah, I'm not sure what is experimental about it - Digital Man may be able to comment, but it does work. I dont think he actually wrote binkit (maybe Deuce wrote it) so that'll probably explain why the wiki is not so clear.

Yes on the linked node (echocfg), I specify a filebox for a node, and anything put in there goes out during the next session. You can even trigger the session with a semafore (although its a general binkp "poll all" instead of poll a specific node - but then you could call jsexec binkit -l <node> in the batch file if you wanted it to go out immediately.

(Or you can use binkd instead of binkit - as some folks do.)

guys since it looks like there's docs for Mystic & Synchronet. I also have fsxNet & doveNet setup so I'm okay with using either network for game data.

I've looked at it, thank you! I think I have to read it some more times to fully understand it.
My problem is, that in most cases, I don't only want to follow a step-by-
step instruction but I want to understand what I'm doing and why :)
That's why it often takes a little longer for me to achieve this ;-)

Yes, by design, its a specific directory for a specific node. The name is arbitrary, ie: I could set up /path/to/acn and anything in that dir goes to you for example (although I generally name them /mailer/box/zz.ff.nn.pp, so I remember who the box is for :)

    Okay.
I just asked because I've set an Outbox directory for my point (/sbbs/fido/topoint) and now I'm finding message packet files there,
    eg. 0000p001.FR0 today.
Do you also see this behaviour?

    That probably sounds right.

For the system that I use a filebox config for, I dont receive mail (nor send mail) so sbbsecho doesnt export anything for that node.
