  • Wheel of Time

    Anyone watched the Wheel of Time series? Is it any good, and does it match
    up with the books at all, or is it just "based" on the books?

    I haven't read the books though they are on my list, but the preview for the show I saw looked fairly decent and I was considering adding it to my watch list.

    I started watching it shortly after posting, but for some reason my dog wouldn't stop barking at it. So I made it about 3 minutes in and decided I'd have to watch it after she went to bed.

    Also I totally get the food coma thing! Haha.

    I watched the first episode this week. Started out kinda cheesy (I didn't
    read the books) but instantly felt like it was firmly in the LoTR shadow,
    not in a good way, plus a 100 other fantasy books/tropes about The Chosen
    One, the Hero Reborn, etc. Overalls FX was super CG and corny at times, Trollocs or whatever they were were kind of laughable with practical
    effects. some stuff (like the opening ritual of falling in the water)
    just didn't make sense.

    BUT it sort of grew on me by the end. Gets really bloody and violent and
    the magic is fun. Despite first impressions, I'm gonna watch the next
    episode :)
