    Double Stars in Leo (all night)

    Sunday, April 13 - Double Stars in Leo (all night) The prominent constellation of Leo, the Lion contains many fine galaxies, but on moonlit nights, you can turn your attention to its many fine double stars. Regulus, the brightest star in Leo, is a magnitude 1.35, B8-class, blue-white star has a magnitude 8.15 companion star 3 arc-minutes to its northwest that can be split in binoculars or a backyard telescope. Magnitude 2.2 Algieba splits into a tight yellow and blue pair, one slightly brighter than the other. The magnitude 4.75 star 40 Leonis shines 22 arc-minutes south of Algieba. Magnitude 3.4 Adhafera is flanked on the north and south by the 5.8 magnitude stars 35 and 39 Leonis.
