Yeah, seems like email has largely filled in the use personal letters
had. Much like what happened to radio.

I don't even think email is used much any more in that regard. People prefer to

send messages over social media these days.

That said, email has become a bit more common in the "Indie Web" movement on the clearnet. Most sites on Neocities have an email you can send messages to, and if I really like their site, I send them an email telling them so, and what's so cool about it! From experience of receiving such emails myself, I know they mean a lot!

As for written letters, it's been so long since I did that. I get RSI whenever I write too much, so even back then I tend to avoid it.
You know, writing this messages has reminded me that I have a typewriter somewhere. I think it would be cool to use that to write some messages to people. Maybe one day if I met anyone down to be penpals with me!

Well, the indie web movement is more about making websites and forums. Most people in the movement make really crazy and zainy sites!

I did that with a game I released. I set up a forwarding email address, and I only shared it in the game's readme file, and someone actually sent an email to

I love the idea of people moving back to blogs. Own the content and syndicate elsewhere.

I think it more common these days that people come back to blogs. Usually techies and it's more headless (e.g. Hugo) with MD as a source format for posts, then some plugin integrations to get the static website generated and uploaded on top of that. Perhaps this is just a temporary fashion and more about learning new ways how to manage content with more technical capability built into the process, but still, there is something happening and people like

to come back to simple tools and more control as you wrote.

I think a lot of people are focusing on branding, and having a place of
your own to SEO when they look up your name doesn't hurt.

I work in technology, and I have a tech blog that comes up when you
look up my name, since one of the first things a prospective employer
or client will do is google you. If the first thing they pull up is a
bunch of smart things I wrote, all the better. :)

I'd love to switch to a static site generator - I'm running Wordpress
for all my sites, and it's grown into overkill for small sites now -
    but it's what I know.

Funny, for last couple of years I find less people I don't know, know and see about me online, the better. And I try hard not to be visible at all. Even on LinkedIN, that actually never gave me a job..

I believe you may really like it, especially if you feel overwhelmed by WordPress heaviness and operational footprint to keep it secure and updated today.

Will do. I've heard a lot about it.

I played years ago with a program called Blosxom, a series of PERL scripts that
