Yeah, seems like email has largely filled in the use personal letters
had. Much like what happened to radio.
That said, email has become a bit more common in the "Indie Web" movement on the clearnet. Most sites on Neocities have an email you can send messages to, and if I really like their site, I send them an email telling
Though might light leave an email for errors (don't know yet).
I love the idea of people moving back to blogs. Own the content and syndicate elsewhere.

I think it more common these days that people come back to blogs.
Usually techies and it's more headless (e.g. Hugo) with MD as a source format for posts, then some plugin integrations to get the static
website generated and uploaded on top of that.
I work in technology, and I have a tech blog that comes up when you
look up my name, since one of the first things a prospective employer
or client will do is google you. If the first thing they pull up is a
bunch of smart things I wrote, all the better. :)
I'd love to switch to a static site generator - I'm running Wordpress
for all my sites, and it's grown into overkill for small sites now -
but it's what I know.

I believe you may really like it, especially if you feel overwhelmed by WordPress heaviness and operational footprint to keep it secure and updated today.
