I'm getting excited starting to look at homes in the UP of Michigan.
Most likely I wont make it for hunting season this year but I will
make it for ice fishing.

It will be nice to get out of this daily 90 degree heat in Florida.

Where is your focus in the UP?

There are some very interesting micro-climates across the UP, some that make life easier and good, and a few that are challenging.

Some are good for part of the year, but get extreme at other times. Ultra-Buggy and Exceptional Snows some to mind for some of the areas.

No idea if you are young and fit, or gray-haired, as some of these challenging periods result in Yoopers (UP residents) moving southward to places in lower Michigan or other states, so they can weather things year round and have ready access to health care.

Holy cow, that's quite the change of climate. As a cold blooded Canadian
that thrives in -20 I welcome you(back?) to the North. Rare to find people making the move in that direction though, usually it's the other way
around(not that I understand the reasoning behind giving up the best season
of the year).

What is it about UP that draws you there? Or perhaps a more relevant
question would be what is it about FL that drives you away?

One is for me the only reason I'm down here in Florida is watch over my
93 year old Mother, only child you know! But I have always hated the heat
and lately is it affects me the worst. Most time out side I'm a big sweat
ball. And of course cold weather has never bothered me. Also I miss small
game and deer hunting and of course the fishing too.

Now where, love the Lake Linden area but not real big on the black flies.
But I like two areas, Marquette and Escanaba area would be best for lighter
weather.

I will tell you about two years ago a please below Lake Linden was listed
for 240.000 with a two bedroom one bath and detached 2 and a half car
garage and two 240 acres. Everything now is 100.000 or more. I've been
watching prices for about 5 years now and remember places would be listed
sometime for the season or two or more. Now home fly off the lists in 30
day. I think the reason is people want to get away from all the crazyness
going on in the cities.

That's really heart warming to hear, well metaphorically speaking, literally speaking it sounds more like heart over-heating :)

That still sounds like a dream come true. We are looking to get a 3 bedroom, no garage, no land and if we can find something in Montreal for under
$700,000 it is considered the deal of a lifetime. So not enough people are moving out of our cities as far as I can tell but perhaps I need to get you
to spread the word about the paradise you have found to help me drive down
some of these prices so we can actually live somewhere decent. As long as I have -20c for more than 2-3 weeks straight, I can get in some good cross-country skiing and snow showing with teh little one I'm a happy camper.

Well even though I'm sure I'm older then you, snow has never bothered me
in the past. Just buy a bigger snow blower this time. Also when I lived in
Metro Detriot working for GM Engineering then retired if it snowed too
much well I just stayed inside more.

People state are you nuts? I just reply hay if it is cold I can always
put another layer of cloths on, if it is 94 out I don't think people
would care to see me in public shopping in just my underwear or none
at all!
