• Dovenet FTN feed?

    From Satchmo@1337:1/107 to All on Sunday, September 24, 2023 21:56:02
    Hey all!

    Is anybody able to provide me a DoveNet feed via binkp?

    Alternatively, has any written a script to do this via FTP/Husky?

    Sure, I can.

    Set your self up on https://clrghouz.bbs.dege.au and let me know when you have.

    I'll give you an FTN address for dovenet and then you should be good to go.

    Yep - was checking this out the other day - I registered too.
    I think you should be able to find an entry for me: "Sonic BBS"

    This is part of an ongoing process to align all my systems.

    I tried to set up for DoveNet and it won't go through. Possibly the ZeroTier ID field is the problem. What is that?

    Also, how do I update the settings on your page for HobbyNet? I have about 45 nodes connected and the list of available feeds needs updating.

    Thanks,

    OK, I saw you registered.

    I sent you a link code, which once you've done it will enable you to managed your BBS. You'll see I've assigned you a dovenet address (zone 12).

    Configure your authentication with clrghouz, and then subscribe to the areas you are interested in, and you should be good to go.

    Poll clrghouz at z12.bbs.dege.au port 24554.

    Let me know if you are having any trouble.

    Hey Mike,

    I tried to set up for DoveNet and it won't go through. Possibly the ZeroTier ID field is the problem. What is that?

    What did you try?

    The process for clearinghouz is this:
    * You sign up and get a username/password,
    * You then look for your BBS (it should be there) and send a link code. (If it isnt then you can create a new entry).
    * Once you "link" your BBS to your user, you can manage your BBS in clearing houz (passwords, subscriptions, address/port to poll, etc).
    * Once I see you are there, then I can give you a dovenet FTN id (eventually I'll have an "apply to join" - but I havent written that yet).
    * Once I've given you an address, you can set your session passwords, set your subscription and start polling.

    Is your BBS not already there?

    ZeroTier isnt actually used at the minute by clearinghouz, but it shouldnt stop

    you registering your BBS if it isnt there. Did it? (ZeroTier is a VPN that we use in TQW, and my aim is to enable it to be configured by clearing houz.)

    Also, how do I update the settings on your page for HobbyNet? I have about 45 nodes connected and the list of available feeds needs updating.

    I can import nodelists, if you drop one in my inbound, I'll import it.

    I eventually might move my BBS over to clrghouz and make it a point, then some stats will be available on mail flow for hobbynet.

    Hey Mike,

    * You then look for your BBS (it should be there) and send a link code. (If it isnt then you can create a new entry).

    I trigger clrghouz to send you a link code.

    It tried polling you on mystic-hobbies.com port 24554, which was an IPv6 address and failed. It should try again a few times over the next few days - but wanted to make sure your IPv6 address is correct in the DNS.

    Hello Mike

    I had the same trouble as you I hate being a dummy but I stopped signing
    up as soon as I got to the ZeroTier. Would someone explain that to me.

    Thanks, Mike for doing what I should have done for my fsxnet dead feed.

    I had the same trouble as you I hate being a dummy but I stopped signing

    ZeroTier is a software defined network, think a VPN, it's secure and keeps traffic hidden away from the public.
    Deon has created a ZeroTier network for tqwNet and I have all 3 hubs communicating with each other purely over that to reduce the public visibility of the traffic. It also means that any node that wants to use ZeroTier can join

    the VPN network and communicate with their hub privately over the VPN rather than via public address space.

    If you want to add ZeroTier to your system, it's quite straight forward;

    Check out this; https://www.zerotier.com/download/

    Then on your BBS computer run whatever it says in the link above for your platform, if Linux for example run;
    curl -s https://install.zerotier.com | sudo bash

    This will install ZeroTier, you then need to join the ZT network and give Deon your ZeroTier ID

    To join the network, you run;

    zerotier-cli join a47cf4a8c0053900

    Then to get your ID to give to Deon run;
    zerotier-cli info

    If that works you will see something like;
    200 info 9999abcdef 1.12.1 ONLINE

    Give Deon whatever is the 10-digit code after the word `info`

    He will then add you to the VPN and your system will get the IPv6 address used for the network. Once confirmed to be working you can change the address for the tqwNet hub you connect to to match it's ZeroTier address i.e.

    hub.ca.zt.erb.pw:24554 (for the US/CA systems)
    hub.uk.zt.erb.pw:24554 (for the UK/EU systems)
    hub.au.zt.erb.pw:24554 (for the AU/NZ systems)

    Hope this helps =)

    @Deon, did I get the network ID right for the join command?

    Good right up :)

    @Deon, did I get the network ID right for the join command?

    You did.

    My plan is to also enable users to "self-register" with zero-tier, using that "ZeroTier ID" field in clrghouz. That way, folks are not waiting for me to register them.

    (If you dont use zerotier, you can leave that field blank clrghouz...)

    No not at all, you can still join without it, that doesn't affect you getting echomail etc.
    It's just if you wanted a fully secure connection to the hub, then the vpn would be a good shout! =)
