    Dear Folks

In addition to my BBS and completely independent of it, I started a forum about

    BBS'ing.
The background to this is that ideally knowledge/experiences/news/tips and tricks should be presented and exchanged there. As is well known, the whole thing only works if many people participate with their knowledge. The knowledge

is now scattered across countless networks/channels/web sites. It is an attempt

on my part to bundle this knowledge again and make it available to interested sysop's/users.

Since, as with all ideas, it only works if many people support it, I would be happy if
tqwNet could support this idea? It's not without reason that a lot of people still enjoy
    this hobby.

Give this idea a chance and visit www.sysops-finest.org

This is a neat idea, I wonder if you could make some sort of web-ring and include various sysop's websites that have some useful info on? I myself keep some helpful tips and tricks over on the tqwNet webite at https://erb.pw - if you would like to add this to some kind of web-ring that would be awesome.

This is not true! It's multilingual (german and english (international)). I've installed a add on this morning, which checks your browser language settings and change the language of the forum (hopefully). In your case - into english. Check this please. Another way to get your language is: register (it won't hurt... I promise that to everyone!) And you can set your default language to english. Last possibility, go down to the bottom click on the small globe and you can change there the default language.
But check first, if you come back, this add on if this will work.
Both language areas are same structured, but international is bigger, you've said it... most Sysop's are international.... But I wanna send a sign to a german community, too (if you understand).
I've added this morning a chat function (add-on) But haven't
configurated it right now.... Have to read the instructions first.
I will add soon a discord-port...... But have to check some things
this and maybe next week before!
So don't be afraid.... give this a chance, cause it won't work without
the knowledge and experience of the Sysop's, Zone Coordinators,
    and and and!

What I'm thinking about your suggestion is..... It makes sense, if
a Sysop (and Sysop's!!) introduce his BBS, what main emphasis
his system present, all things his BBS makes special, by himself!
This can only do the Sysop of his system! Also a Zone Coordinator for
his network. Nobody does this better!!! Really!
And for both topics (BBS/Network) in my opinion, it won't work without saying the address of the BBS, the contact person for the network,
In short... information is set in the forum, with reference to the own
BBS or to the network coordinator. No One-Way-Street!!!
I've added the ability for registered users, that they can post a Screenshot of their BBS, or from their network, a logo or whatever.
My vision is to get them (Sysop's, ZC) at one table to present their System/Network best they can! Share news, give tips&tricks or
information about a new Tool for a bbs/network. They are so much
things that happens/change or whatever in the scene! Let them share!

But remember... This forum is at the beginning and since most Sysop's are very skeptical,
this forum isn't filling up as quickly as I'd wished and hoped.

All good but why a website? All people interested in the topic should understand how to connect to a board as a starter and having a discussion group here focused on sysop experience, support and troubleshooting as local value of a board or FTN is what I'd expect a primer.

And I think there is plenty of that around many FTNs already.

Website just adds a lot of unnecessary decoration.

I will say I agree with this, it's a nice idea to have a site people can use to discuss but, for those in the scene already, this (BBS) is their primary hang out where they will ask for, and help out with, people's cries for help/advice/etc.

I run a pretty successful website with wiki and discussion and blog, but the majority of the help/advice happens either in the message bases on the FTN's or in Matrix. My feeling is that people now want to use BBS as a way to a) relive a nostalgic past, and/or b) to get away from the web and it's distractions.

    Totally!

I can't imagine somebody wants to become a sysop without understanding the user/consumer perspective in this tech stack. And when you do so and start thinking about owning a board... HTTP is just a fucked up gopher full of exploits, if anything :)

Well the "colourful" expression you gave is right on the money imho =)

The web as we know it today, is not the web many people want to be in or use, and have chosen to find an alternative source of information, social interaction, education and recreation.

The web as we know it today, is not the web many people want to be in or use, and have chosen to find an alternative source of information, social interaction, education and recreation.

I think with more promotion, advertising and posts on all of the things, that BBSes can continue to grow in the future. People WANT what we have to offer - they just don't know it.

2oFB has had a lot of traffic from non-BBS platforms like /r/eddit... while it doesn't jive with the vintage community, I'm kind of embracing it and want to venture into other platforms.

While I'm not sure it will happen, I can imagine BBSes catching on in a HUGE way if one advert campaign went 'viral'...
