Hows everyone doing? Just checking in! I hope all made it through one of the 42 massive tornado's that touched ground in the mid-west of the US last evening. We had one touch down about 10 miles north of us; the weather was wild and my roof was new. It's still new; likely more weathered for sure though. At least we are all safe and the house is sound.

I mean "only" from astonishment as any life lost is too many ..
however surprisingly only 4 people reportedly died out of all of that. Many of these were CAT4's which looked to be several city blocks in size. Colorado so much for that reason alone (ok, not to mention the food and mountains ...) The worst I had growing up in Colorado seemed to be snow and a lot of lightening during afternoon storms that would ominously appear over the rockies and slow crawl toward Denver each afternoon during the summer.

driving on the interstate in NC one time and tornado sirens started

That is absolutely insane. I know they say to do that -- look for a bridge, find a ditch, etc.... I'd have reacted in the moment by hitting the gas and trying to out run it haha! I've been fortunate to not have experienced one while in a vehicle, I'm not sure which would be worse a car or home. Crazy stuff for sure. We don't have a basement, after this past weekend, I'm considering having a tornado shelter installed.

My family has a cabin near the Lake Tahoe area. I'm figuring I'll need
to go in through the second-story window - once I get up onto the snow
pack. We haven't had snow like this since the early 1980s.

The saving grace is that everyone up there is employed. Everyone is

Gardens are a fun family project. I get all three of my boys involved. We have a pretty big garden though. A smaller one might be more fun for the kiddos then ours. But I get it, they are time consuming. I do enjoy knowing where my food came from, and what was sprayed on it (nothing). We also can and

Amazing how Springs work. We are in the 70's today with Tornado warnings and watches again. I just had a cork screw willow tree fall over in my back yard that I'll need to cut up tomorrow. Of course, temps will be in the 40's. Bluck.

Yeah... in my area, spring time Thunderstorm sometimes behave like carpet bombing with lighting strikes. One after another. sometimes just few kms away, you see the light, 1-2 seconds and boom, and another boom... once I calculated about 15 in a single minute.

All flat land around and three rivers connecting near by, two making huge reservoir lake, and the rivers themselves are like 200-300 yards broad before they enter the reservoir. I think this amount of water around flat land is triggering this madness.

And I say I hate the Portland RAIN so much... glad yer OK, hoping no more crazy wind comes yer way...

Is Portland rain any different than Seattle's rain?

Not at ALL - it rains 5 months a year; a few months of sun... very different from my home of Texas. I've only been here for 3... 4 years. I'm not a super fan, but I have some love here, so I remain...

Texas is my home; where I know it'll be 100 degrees for 8 months of the year. HOT. Thats my jam.

I know what you mean. Northwest both in OR and WA is just one big, sprawling piece of beauty. Both cites and towns and nature, regardless if you drive heading the ocean or mountains, and the border river (Columbia) is just spectacular.

I been only driving through Portland once, heading south and I found all the nature more or less the same, just the city less focused on skyscrapers than Seattle, where I lived for a moment.

But yeah, raining in that part of the world makes English weather sunny. Just came back from Vegas, where tour guides proclaim with some odd sense of pride that the area got 2 1/2 inches of rain last YEAR. Here in California, we can get that in a STORM.
