• OpenWRT rocks...

I'm sure most people here should know about OpenWRT, it's a router framework based on embedded Linux that runs on many appliance routers. It's an extremely flexible solution that lets you include packages for most features you'd need.

I was playing with PiHole and somehow broke DNS on my router. I looked for a recent backup from before the changes, but I'd deleted it. Drat.

What I was able to do was scp into the router and copy the /etc/config directory to my desktop, then do a hard reset. Once it reset, I configured the wireless, then copied the firewall information and static leases from my desktop and I was mostly there.

Then, did a backup. I'll start doing that from now on before changes.

One other cool thing with OpenWRT - I'm running two Linksys WRT1900ac routers. They have dual flash ram areas. You flash one "side" with OpenWRT, and if you brick it, try booting it 3 times and it'll flip to the other, working side so you can try again. So, you can either keep the OEM linksys firmware on one side, or OpenWRT on both, and upgrade one side at a time.

It makes them "Unbrickable", at least as far as I've tried. :)

    Yes running it on a d-link dir-2660 :) Handles IPv6 very well.

This is a smart thing, kinda like how some OnePlus mobiles have their ROMs, my OnePlus 6T has 2 sides, A and B.

I don't know if I can choose which to boot from or upgrade - but I doubt by now the stock ROM exists on either as it's been running LineageOS for some 5+ years at this point so I'm sure it's swapped and installed over many times lol.

I loved LineageOS - I kept a Samsung SIII going for many years after
it'd gone EOL. I don't know why I loved that phone enough to keep it
going, think I liked the size of it.

Lineage supported the phone until the developer's SIII broke. I figured
that was a hint to move on.

Yeah I have my OnePlus 6T from like 2019 and with LineageOS it's going strong, still works as good as the day I bought it, well better actually as it doesn't have the stock rom on it now lol. I have never had a problem with LineageOS, it has always worked flawlessly for me, and I love that they still provide updates for it for the phone I have.

Yeah I hope they keep supporting my phone until I break it, lol. There's nothing wrong with my phone so I don't have the heart to retire it into a drawer and buy another that does the exact same thing. The only thing I would like is a better camera for it, but I don't take many photos so it's no biggy.

Cool that you run Lineage... I didn't know that.

Any issues w/o Google Apps, are you happy without - or have you added them in a sandbox?
