The answers to today's Strands, game #248, are GUITAR VIOLIN BANJO MANDOLIN UKULELE SITAR HARP SPANGRAM: STRINGY My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

One of my many regrets in life is that I never learned to play a musical instrument. If I had, it would definitely have been a guitar. I suppose it's not too late for me to change that, but for now I'll have to content myself with solving a Strands game about stringed instruments or, as the spangram would have it, STRINGY. I didn't much like that as a spangram, but that aside this is a reasonable game, with several easy answers (GUITAR, VIOLIN) and a few that are possibly less common, depending on where in the world you are
and what type of music you listen to (SITAR, HARP, UKULELE). I solved it without needing any hints, which is a far cry from yesterday's
near-disastrous game though Strands is typically so easy that I can't really imagine ever failing a game entirely.

The answers to today's Strands, game #255, are HUMAN GIBBON KANGAROO PANGOLIN MEERKAT OSTRICH SPANGRAM: BIPEDAL My rating: Moderate My score: Perfect

Top marks to the NYT puzzle setters for this edition of Strands, which offers just the right amount of challenge. No real specialist knowledge is required a factor which always makes a Strands game more inclusive, and therefore better for more people but it requires a bit of thought and probably a bit
of luck to solve it without hints.

The theme clue of 'We're walking' was a little cryptic, but when I spotted HUMAN placed prominently at the top of the grid I had an inkling of what
was needed. I couldn't find a second word, though, until I focused on the two Bs near the bottom right of the board and got GIBBON. That led me to KANGAROO and then surprisingly PANGOLIN, which I didn't know was a BIPEDAL animal. The other answers were easier to get simply because there were not many possibilities left, although it still took me an annoyingly long time to realize that the last word was OSTRICH!

The answers to today's Strands, game #262, are LITTER BONE COLLAR KIBBLE BALL LASER CATNIP SPANGRAM: PETSUPPLIES My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

I own a dog and a cat, or rather they own me, given that I spend my money on food, treats and other assorted PETSUPPLIES for them. And what do I get in return? Well, actually, from the dog, a lovely chocolate labrador, I get unconditional love. From the cat, meanwhile, I get well, I get the honor of buying it food and treats and assorted PETSUPPLIES, and the sense that I should be very happy with that and nothing more.

Anyway, this is a subject I'm all-too familiar with, so finding all of the answers was not a great problem. I spotted LITTER and BONE while I was
hunting for hints to use in this column, then once I knuckled down and tried properly I got the likes of COLLAR and KIBBLE with no issues. It was one of the easier Strands puzzles (and few are that hard, to be honest).

As with yesterday's game (see below for the answers if you missed them), this is a Strands puzzle that is perfectly acceptable but that which wasn't really one for me. I don't fly, generally, and I'm not based in the US so the likes of UNITED, DELTA, SPIRIT and FRONTIER did not spring readily to mind. I
didn't need a hint to get started, however, because I found FRONTIER by accident and once I combined that with the theme clue of 'Come fly with me' I had enough knowledge to know what was needed.

The trouble was, though I have heard of all of the AIRLINES included here, I couldn't think of them, so had to do a combination of word-searching and letter-pattern-searching until I got them all. So not the most fun, but I'm not blaming the NYT this was just not the day for me.
