From Daniel Garrod@2:250/3 to All on Thursday, January 16, 2025 13:51:19
    Hello All,

I have BinkD set up to receive mail from 2:250/1, but now I need a mail tosser that will work with BinkD to send outgoing mail, what is the easist software to use and configure that works with BinkD on Linux?

    Kind regards,
    Daniel

I use hpt with binkd on Ubuntu 22.04. It works quite well.

I followed the instructions here to get it installed: https://github.com/huskyproject/huskybse/blob/master/INSTALL.asciidoc

There are some sample config files included. If you cloned the git to /tmp you'd find them at /tmp/husky/hpt/config.

That may depend on your BBS software. I have a synchronet system that is running its own sbbsecho tosser and it works fine with BinkD on linux. I
have also used BinkD with a couple of other systems that came with their
own tossers and they also worked.

Does your BBS software come with its own tosser?

I'd say Husky project's hpt is a de-facto standard tosser for Linux nodes these days: https://github.com/huskyproject
There are pre-built packages for different distros, but even building & configuring it from scratch won't be that hard.

crashmail is easier to set up, hpt is a bit more flexible if you want .tic files as well..

    Easiest: FMail
    The best: Hpt

You can always run DOSBox on a Raspberry Pi and explore the entire world of DOS Fido software that has been accumulated since the early '90s.

Thanks to the FTS-1 spec and friends, Fido developers throughout the years have made efforts to follow these specs, and as a result, we have software that has remained compatible for over 35 or 40 years.

It seems so. I haven't tried it myself, but Tommi Koivula reported this last year:

Compiled in Raspberry PI3 running Debian 32bit. No problems.

Started fconfig from scratch and imported areas.bbs created from husky setup. So this fmail setup runs in parallel with husky/hpt now. Seems
    ok :)

If you can compile it yourself, the source can be obtained with git:

    # git clone https://git.code.sf.net/p/fmail/code fmail

There is a howto in a previous message in the FMAIL_HELP area.

If you want a pre-compiled version for the PI, maybe Tommi can help you?
