Hello Everybody,
-=A Kiwi, a Dutchman, and an Aussie conversing in Lithuanian=-
Best I could come up with was Lithuanian for "because". Do
you/the Dutch speak Lithuanian?
Some do, I don't.
It would appear that most EU countries may one day meld their
local languages into a single Eurpoean langauge. I was made aware
by an immigrant ~20 years ago that there's little variance in some
nation states' languages in the eastern Mediterranean, also.
English may yet gain a EU comptetitor, in time... following
a Brexit. ;)
Cheers,
Paul.
And which version of English should we all adhere to?
Will it be the American version of English? As all in
Fidonet are expected to comply with, as per P4? Or
should it be British English, as the Queen herself would
speak it? Or what about Australian English? Or Indian
English? Or Canadian English? Or any of a number of
other versions of English?
I must say this is a disgrace. A disgrace to all.
Cajun French is my native tongue, with English being
a second language. Why should I be forced to speak
and write a language that is foreign to me?
Cajuns arrived in Louisiana before Americans came, or
even founded a country of their own. Cajuns speak French,
not English, as their primary language. Or used to, until
the English language was forced upon them by the American
invaders.
That might explain why there are no French sysops in
Fidonet. None at all. There used to be one sysop from
New Orleans, but he was a transplant and sadly is no
longer amongst us. In any event, he did not speak French
because he never learned the language. Even though most
of his friends were Cajun and spoke it fluently.
Now, if only Joe Bruchis will come out of hiding ...
