However, there are problems when I use GoldEd/2 (JAM) ... a lot of
empty mails appear in various echos.

Stop using the EMX version of HPT with JAM.
Watcom binaries works better. You can try mine: https://www.fidonet.fi/huskyos2/

You can try to fix (or delete) your jam base which has obviously been broken all the time, download the latest golded from http://download.golded.org/os2/, and then finally start using squish instead of jam. :)

I use the same GED/2 under the same OS/2, but Tosser under FE/2 and
Jam... so far no problems ;-)
I have never used Squish before... what should I be aware of? How do I
define the areas in HPT?

Just replace "-b jam" with "-b squish".
Today I expanded my batch after tossing with
hptutil sort
hptutol link
After that the MsgBase was gone again :-/

I think I'd rather stick with FE/2.

I'm unsure what you are trying to sort (I usually leave things unsorted
so the messages are displayed in the order they are received).

If it helps any, I've never used hptutil for anything. You can
probably take that out of your processing and have things work just
fine.

Not that I need it... I was just testing it ;-)
