small purchases here and there.
But then there are no charges for cash back with the debit card with
my bank.

Not something I would do as a regular practice, even on a trip... not
sure if my debit card would do that, though probably it would... I also
don't use the ATM machines for cash from my accounts... But then,
generally, I'm depositing cash into my checking account, and I can
either hold some out if I expect to need it, or just use the debit card
for the purchase... :)
