• Today: The U.S. Midterm Elections

From Joseph Pereira@1:103/705 to All on Tuesday, November 03, 2026 09:46:53

It is a tense time in the U.S. At stake are all seats in the House of Representatives, one-third of the seats in the Senate, a significant number of governorships, and, in many places, elections for local officials.

Will there be a "blue wave" for the Democrats, or will Democratic voters stay home once again, allowing the Republicans to walk away with the victory?

No one knows for sure, as many people have yet to cast their ballots today.

Whether the elections will be free and fair remains an open question. Trump has hinted that he wants to give ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) free rein. Furthermore, the MAGA movement has deliberately placed individuals within election boards, people who will be counting votes and processing official documents. ICE could influence the elections by stationing agents at polling locations to intimidate voters, either discouraging them from voting altogether or coercing them, out of fear, to vote for the incumbent party. Such actions would be illegal, but the law is not something Trump concerns himself with much.

In many states, the final results will not be known today. It is quite possible that many outcomes will not be officially confirmed until the end of the week.

Trump has already announced that he intends to challenge any result in which Democrats emerge victorious. In any scenario, Trump will never concede a loss. What consequences he might attempt to trigger remains to be seen; the last time he lost an election, he incited an assault on the Capitol.

At the moment it looks like the Democrats and the blue wave that everyone
was hyping up could be a reality. I'm seeing the Senate results say 45 dem
and 34 republican. I do also wonder how this will go and will trump accept
the results if it doesnt swing his way.

Yeah this is even the first news headline in Australia today. I can't
remember the last time an American mid-term did that. Lots of scrutiny on
    this thing, even from here.
