• Stale Donuts

From apam@21:1/125 to All on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 14:32:16
    :(

I just went to the shop and got some donuts, it was a impulse buy as they
were by the register and expiring soon and I thought you know what would
    be nice? Some donuts!

Then I got home looking forward to a nice donut, and it was crunchy. Like
bread when it gets a bit too old. So disappointing.

Oh well. I will eat them anyway. Dammit I paid $5 for them I'm not going
to chuck them out. I will take it as a lesson not to buy donuts from that
    shop again.

That's a lesson you can apply to most foodstuffs. The expiry date means it's still safe to eat by that date, but not necessarily that it will still be fresh.

We have 'Best Before' and 'Use By' dates. Use By you don't want to eat it
past this date, best before it's still ok but not the best. The donuts I
bought were best before March 3 I think so a few days away, they
shouldn't have been so stale they were crunchy.

I buy day old's all the time. Quick trick? Microwave a donut on a plate
with a paper towl on the bottom for 5-10 seconds (depending on your nuker)
and voila. It'll be warm, and fresh again.

Hehe, told my wife about them and she got me some new donuts from another supermarket on her way home. When she got home she looked at the
remaining donuts I bought and threw them in the bin.

The ones she brought home incidently were best before March 1 (2 days
before the ones I bought) and were much better.

And so ends the saga of the stale donuts. Tune in tomorrow for more
exciting adventures in the life of apam.

I have done the same thing.. I used to buy a box of day old danish and would put them in the microwave for about 5-10 seconds and they would be as good as new. Those things are like $1-$2 each normally, and I would get a dozen for around $3-$4.

I can tell you a story about stale beer. Not from my house of course, but I can attest that if left long enough, beer will taste funky.

Moral of the story. Drink the beer vs. letting it sit for years.

Haha, yes, I don't think it would be possible to have stale beer in my
    house.
