    Hello

Kind of bored sitting in front of the computer, logging into various bbses and exploring.

The last couple of days I've been setting up a new WWIV BBS. It's called "The Barbed Hook".

Still keeping this BBS though, it's something to work on when I get the motivation again. Needs private messaging and the ability to set pointers. It wouldn't take long, just have no motivation to do it.

It's been fairly hot here today, not super hot, but not jumper weather.

Have not been getting much sleep due to CPAP raining out all the time (hose gets water in it for some reason).

There you go, now you know some of the CPAP lingo. Well, that's all the lingo I

    know anyway :P Exciting stuff.

If you want to have a look at my WWIV bbs, it's at barbedhook.ddns.net:2323

Oh I updated my sudoku door game, it now times the game and has a top 10 leaderboard.

    Well, have fun.

Rain, hail or shine I can't see CPAP being fun any of the time. I s'pose you get used to it though. I got pushed into a sleep clinic that wired you up and did all the is he breathing type setup. In the morning they ask did you sleep?

Well I s'pose I must have, but I don't remember... that'll do, tick... <chuckle> Maybe you need a regulator for the air line... or a moisture trap... basically just a little jar with a tap on the bottom, and hose fittings at the top... if there's a enough moisture to pool it sits in the collector until you empty it.

Hi Apam, hey I need some better and scary ANSI for my haunted system.

It seems like my Haunted BBS needs something else, but I'm just not sure

Here in Memphis it's finally getting to be cold. Used to be normal in October, but the past 15-20 years it's seemed to stay hot longer into the Fall. Wasn't totally prepared for it this year, but hey, I'll take that over 90+ with 90% Humidity all the time.

You're wired up to the hilt, electrodes over your head, chest, a mask on your face measuring respiration... That's interesting... wouldn't have expected enough temp difference to make any

difference, still I s'pose its an air flow compared to static so it could well be. On some level, my theory was the same as a compressor, at some point the thing is pushing air so its being squashed if not necessarily compressed, but when you squash air the moisture falls out. Which is why you end up with the receiver full of water, and some in the airlines.. so you normally stick the moisture filter near the compressor.

Yeah, I don't think that's it. It has a line where to fill it up to, and I only

    put about half that.

I've tried everything, have the humidity down to 0, it's supposed to have a heated hose, and I've got a cover on it (like a blanket)

The thing is it's only started happening in the last few months (well it's always happened in cold weather, but now it happens even when it's not particularly cold).

I sure as hell did... and it's helped my blood pressure numbers massively.

Yeah, I'm used to mine I don't get a very good sleep without it. Apparently with my sleep study I was stopping breathing about twice a minute... so it was kind of urgent to be on one.

The pressures involved aren't really that high. CPAP is limited to how
high it can go. The BIPAP is the next level up. It has to monitor the respiration and work with the wearer. I've never seen one of those --
    I hope I never do.

But once the CPAP gets up to speed, the pressure stays mostly constant.
There's slight changes when you breath, but it should (I think) be mostly
    the same.

CPAP = "Constant Positive Airway Pressure"

My Mom has had a CPAP for many years. It's a really old model, no
heater, no tank (for water/moisture). In wintertime it is rough for
her, it blows ice cold air onto her sinuses. She uses the blankets to
try to pre-warm the air some. I've got a newer one with the heater and
    tank.

There you go, now you know some of the CPAP lingo. Well, that's all the lingo I know anyway :P Exciting stuff.

I've been (trying) to use a CPAP for a couple of years now: I have it ramp up slowly over 45 minutes (the slowest setting), but when it reaches the full force flow (the minimum required to keep you breathing, apparently), it always wakes me up and I remove it, completely irritated. The maximum length of time I've managed to tolerate it is just over an hour. I'm using the "nose pillows",

It's a possibilty, but I don't *think* so, as opening your mouth with the CPAP is a strange sensation and it actually creates kind of a suction that keeps my mouth closed (I think). I suppose I could video record myself sleeping to find out for sure. I definitely don't want to do another sleep study; those are tortuous for me.

Yeah, I was first diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2001 but didn't get a CPAP until just a few years ago at my wife's insistance and after a second sleep study confirmed the apnea was bad (and supposedly dangerous). I know the companies that sell the machines and parts/supplies make a good profit from the

But out of an abundance of caution, I'm trying to give it another go, but I've never successfully kept the device "on" for a full

night's sleep yet. There's an app on my phone which communicates (via the "cloud") with the CPAP machine, so it knows exactly how long I managed to keep it on each night and different problems with the connetion/flow. It is an impressive peice of gear.

It is an impressive peice of gear.

I guess it's one of those things really, once you know there's a more serious issue it's the kind of thing you want to use as many options that are
    available to sort.

That said, I've always wondered how easy (if at all) it is to try and sleep with something puffing air up your nose that's on your face. I'm afraid I
would not do well in that camp. I would revert to thinking I was in some
scene from an Aliens movie and the creature was out to get me. Sad eh? :)

Well the day is drawing to a close here, not long home from work. Got some
food heating up in the oven, working on some node applications and then some inter-bbs configs.

It's a possibilty, but I don't *think* so, as opening your mouth with
the CPAP is a strange sensation and it actually creates kind of a
suction that keeps my mouth closed (I think). I suppose I could video record myself sleeping to find out for sure. I definitely don't want to
do another sleep study; those are tortuous for me.

Oh yes, they are tortuous for everyone ;)

Personally I'd see if they can dial it down a bit.

Maybe try some melatonin to help you get to sleep while you are getting used to it. I can't sleep without the CPAP.

I love me some melatonin. For awhile there I was taking way too much (10mg) then I came across this healthy sleep formula. Now I take 2mg of melatonin with 500mg of niacinamide and I usually sleep right through the night & don't feel groggy the next morning.

I have thought about carrying melatonin in my store, and I will probably add it at some point, but so far people here likes Phyto TS from LKN's lab. It has a lot of flowers in its list of ingredients, but I use it ocasinally and it works wonders hahaha.

The rest of us just give our sleep and exercise data to Fitbit (soon to be owned by Google), or just cut out the need for middlemen entirely by letting Google or Apple keep track of all our movements.

But with a cellphone, I suppose they'd have to guess a bit more at our sleep quality.

could change the settings. Mine was set to 16.0, but I'm experimenting with different pressure settings now. Unfortunately, my unit, although it came with an SDCard, does not store the detailed sensor data on the SDCard that you need to determine if its working to prevent the apnea events or not (e.g. use the open source software, OSCAR). So I may be getting a different machine.

Been bored lately. Everything I usually do isn't really fulfilling at the moment.

I've been reinstalling OSes, am and currently on AlmaLinux, but even
that is starting to get boring - there seems to be no interesting linux distros anymore and other OSes don't seem to run well enough on my computer. Maybe I've been doing it too long.

I've set up synchronet.. it's kind of fun. I'm keen to see what they're using MQTT for. But why?

I don't have the concentration to read a book or watch a movie. Even if I did I don't seem to have a long enough uninterrupted chunk of time to do so.

Started writing a BBS in rust, but that got old pretty quickly.

Set up a minetest server again, it's just me. It's kind of fun if I can get myself motivated to play it.

Second Life is kind of dull, but I have managed to break even the last couple of months, so that's a plus (ie, it's not costing me anything as I make enough in game to pay the fees)

Having said that, it is neat to see C and C++ and other languages, improve because of Rust and it's unique takes on things.

Set up a minetest server again, it's just me. It's kind of fun if I

Depending on what kind-o minetest server you're (or anyone else here is) interested in, let me know... I'm currently running a Minetest server (server.beanzilla.net default port 30000).

I've got cars, boats, planes, a helicopter, a submarine, oh and I even
got guns. (Please note, PVP fighting is enabled, and spawn is currently
bugged so you can fight/die at spawn, which isn't supposed to be allowed)
I've also got a interesting health mechanic, where geting shot,
stabbed, etc. can cause injuries that can cause you to bleedout, and when
your health drops to 0 it keeps going (like in a unconcious state).
You need someone else to patch you up with the right order of medical bandages in order to stop bleeding. (So making at least 1 alt is allowed/recommended, or have a friend you can ping to have them come heal
    you)

Or if you need any help in picking mods or have a mod you'd like to get

    did you sleep? Well I s'pose I must have, but I don't
    remember... that'll do, tick... <chuckle>

You don't remember if you slept? That's another problem! LOL

You're wired up to the hilt, electrodes over your head, chest, a mask on your face measuring respiration... Its exceedingly uncomfortable, so I found I couldn't just go to sleep in any normal sort of way.... just sit there uncomfortable and wait for the time to pass... did I nod off? probably...
