Facebook finally blocked my account because I was continually
undeleting and redeleting my account when needed. But today I am blocked
and I am so greatful I have a real excuse not to go back.

I'm thinking of moving over to the Fediverse full time. I've had accounts
there for years, but never made a serious move there. I think today is
    the day...

    Congrats!

I go back and forth on Facebook. I finally deleted the phone app, because I
    was using it as a distraction too often, and not getting _useful_ content;
just stuff to keep me distracted for a bit.

With a PC, I have Fluff-Busting Purity to help me with Facebook, and get rid
of the various distracting parts that don't actually make me any happier.

So now I use it less, but aside from missing a couple updates from people or groups, it's probably of limited utility.

I'm still sad, in general, that there aren't more _useful_ things on the internet, that surface stuff that I want, rather than what's addictive.

But, eh, seems like Facebook is fading anyway, and it's not like TikTok or Instagram get me the content I want, rather than just distracting me for a moment or two.

I deleted my account months ago, and I don't miss it that much. The "fear of missing out" goes away, and there are better places to be, such as here.

Now encourage others you know to leave it.

I wish it was easy to do that. I've run social network apps and websites
for years, and it's nearly impossible to even get people to check our
a website, let alone do a move.

The big social networks are just too addictive for people to want to
leave. But that's fine, at least here, and other places aren't so busy
and full of spam. It's a breath of fresh air.

Agreed, there isn't much there that I miss. The updates from family,
some deals on the marketplace, and being able to chat with contacts are
    really about it.

All I do on my phone is, phone calls and SMS. Any time someone asks if I
have some app on there, I tell them I have a dumb phone even though its a perfectly fine LG android job.

I bunged in purity, I'm not sure if the PC end of things is different to the phone apps or the PC is already filtering stuff, but purity doesn't seem to
    see much to tidy up.

There's a couple of groups I follow, mostly they're the extension of old
usenet groups I used to follow.. like CSA2, comp.sys.apple2. But otherwise there's nothing I need out of FB.. I'll collect photos of expansion cards for the II to go into the hardware database and answer the odd question and thats about it.

These Social Media platforms are truly a menace, and they should be opposed with everything we have. They are effectively monopolies, and I would welcome regulation. In fact, FB/Twitter should be considered public spaces and regulated as such.

These places are not "private property" anymore.

    Weird.

I make as few phone calls as possible while still being a member of society, and use Google Voice for most of the SMSs I do, which makes it more internet application than phone thing.

But I come from the point of view that Personal Digital Assistants just went wrong when they added in phone functionality.

I bunged in purity, I'm not sure if the PC end of things is different to the phone apps or the PC is already filtering stuff, but purity doesn't seem to see much to tidy up.

Facebook does tend to change their advertising bits often enough that FB
Purity is oftentimes playing catchup for ad blocking.

But I had it cut out the reels, as I was finding myself watching them and not really appreciating the distraction.

usenet groups I used to follow.. like CSA2, comp.sys.apple2. But otherwise there's nothing I need out of FB.. I'll collect photos of

Yeah. It seems like real people are using it less, and for everything else, there seem to be decent other options.

Seems vaguely sad to be using Facebook instead of the actual comp.sys.apple2.

But I guess there are benefits to some of the newer aspects of technology.

The first problem is that people thinks they need digital social networks to have a social life. Iḉ d rather invite friends to have a BBQ at home and show them what social life is about.
