Hmm, I could fire up one of my Apple machines. Need to do some
serious power supply work first though...

What kind of Apple is it? I might be able to help you out there. Out of interest does Apana still keep newsgroups?

I think it's an Apple ][ (no plus or e).
Loved those machines. :) One of these days I'm going to have to get
    a super serial card.

How many serial cards would you like? :) Let me see whats in the kitty...

an Apple Commmunications Card - this thing is pre SSC
and CCS 7710 - also older than an SSC, this one even has a manual though
I thought I had one more SSC somewhere... I do have one in CloneE

An AppleII?? Really?? Sure she'd have to be a plus, or europlus?? I don't think
I've seen anything older than a II+ in Aus...

As for serial cards, something I can use to transfer disk images,
and maybe even experiment with for running a BBS on one day - I can
use a Linux machine as a telnet to serial gateway. :)

Well transfer disk images will be ADTpro, but I don't know if it'll use either of those serial cards, I've never looked at it. Have you got an 80Col card for
that beast? Its hard to do much stuck in 40cols...although there are stil 40Col terminals around, and at that age they may well support either of these cards.

I have my IIgs, on a serial link to an OrangePi much the same way. For CloneE I'm looking at finishing off a Wifi Modem, I finished one and gave it away, I have gotten around to finishing my own yet.

I believe I have an 80 column card, would have to look, but it
    was fairly well
    optioned up, including a Z80 card. :)

No dramas, can only give it a try. :)

Nice. :) This just sounds like a fun project to do.

Nice. :) This just sounds like a fun project to do.

Remarkably easy things to put together, an ESP32 or similar module, a TTL-RS232
converter for the voltage levels, a spot of programming, I use Zi-Modem... nothing fancy but it works nicely. Only thing I find, is that they need a bit of time to fire up and get running, sometimes has me wondering whats its doing.
Think I've got makings for two still.

When are you coming to Melbourne next? I'll have to pop together a showbag for you.

Cool. :) I'm not as well equipped for construction these days, very limited space to wield the soldering iron. :(

Best part is you don't even need to, I've just tied them together with molex leads... I'll have to pop up a photo somewhere... then popped a piece of foam between the 2 boards and either cabled tied them together or bunged it in a zippy box..

I was in Melbourne (Southbank) on Friday. I will be at Sandown on Saturday competing in a distance relay as part of the Athletics
    Victoria XCR series.

Sandown is good, I'm in Frankston these days. But thats only a shortish drive.
Just need to remember what I'm bringing. :) I have the pi sitting in front of
me, will track down the wifi modem bits... I think they're actually in the same hiding place as the rest of the Pi's I was wondering about.

    Sandown at Sandown Park?

Yep, at the motor racing circuit, though there won't be any motors
    in action.

Except for you motoring around by the sound of it..... You know you could always chase the GG's instead of the Motors :)

Might have to swap mobile phone numbers or other contact details before Saturday.

Well how about I get a step closer with spectre@tlp.zapto.org then I can send a
    phone number later.

OK, cool. So details now. I don't deal with fragmented information

Have a peek at http://pineapple.zapto.org/projects/ you'll get a good idea of whats involved, but as per my previous message, I have a completed one, you'll need a serial lead for your end though.

To make things look even more esoteric, is to get QWK up and running on my IIgs
and start posting messages from there... anyone else still sitting on an Apple
    II anywhere?
