Well seeing as there's 3 defunct boxes here at the moment. I repurposed one of the Veritons for a Synchro install. After Faffing about with missing libs and a profusion of warnings later. Its actually compiled and installed and useable.
All be it a completely stocky install. Oh and wait for it.... it DID not trash the entire file system. Don't know what its not liking on my other systems but this one seems safe.
Current hiccoughs include being unable to bind to low ports. The quick'n'dirty work around is to run as root.. and given it's not expected to be
open to the public it may be sufficient.
The configuration looks like a complete mousetrap. But then I s'pose even the DOS stuff did way back when I was still a DOS virgin. I guess disabling all services save telnet in the short term is one of the plans. And locating enough information to create an NNTP -> FTN gateway.
